@olddiesel 100%. To add if you were to track STEN scores of these LCert students you would likely find all/most presented in top 30% percentiles. They work consistently (hard!) through primary/secondary maths curricula and finish that journey with that Maths paper 1. Systemic failure.
@AdamWilsonIE Yes but exam papers are designed to scale up in difficulty so most can tackle aspects somewhere and best students get specific parts to shine. Standard practice/pedagogy. This paper locked all but top 10% out from the get go.
@MickChris151 @emma_okelly Ah Mick, if you only knew the sacrifice, dedication, ambition and commitment of these students...you would understand the despair
@nanakando @emma_okelly Could not agree more. Purist and elitist. Kids achieving primary school sten 9/10s, working hard for 6 years, last 2 absolute dedication, with so much on the line.. not able to tackle that paper.
Exam papers should include varying levels of expectation so the H1s get to shine but the H3/4s get a chance. That paper was designed to weed out all but the top 15%. Purist and elitist. Find the weaknesses and gaps and turn the screw. Not education, punishment. #MathsPaper1

@caitrionamcloug@NormaFoleyTD1 Scandalous. Extra CAO points to incentivise students in our STEM based society, a curriculum that's almost impossible to cover, a workload that dwarfs 3 other LC subjects combined, money spent on grinds and then a Paper designed for 10% of students for whom maths is their future.

@MsSullivan86@DrNinaByrnes To add. I have 3 other students who will NEVER do HC maths. Give the other 6 subjects a chance. Pulling them out in 5th year, for sure. My eldest distraught after 2 years of complete commitment. Purists be damned...

@grainne_gra@hazelmander@IrishTimes@Education_Ire@NormaFoleyTD1 CAO points incentive for Maths should be challenged after that LC H paper. Designed by arrogant, elitist mathematicians for future mathematicians...kids killing themselves to do well, totally dejected and confidence destroyed. Shameful.
