Our attempt to hijack the Rice deal was farcical. "It's like asking your neighbor, who has a Ferrari, if they'll swap it for my Vauxhall Astra and this wheelbarrow" - Mark Goldbridge 2023
Felt like a loss that, but it was needed for these players coming back from injury. Really scrappy showing, and really shows when Grant Williams isn’t in this team. Lessons learnt and we move on to the enemy
Manchester United need to buy a CB this summer. Lisandro Martinez is brilliant when fit, but he cannot be counted on to stay fit for an entire season. You cannot plan with players whose availability is not guaranteed.
He has played:
- 45 of 62 games in 22/23 (73%)
- 14 of 52 games in 23/24 (27%)
- 32 of 49 games in 24/25 (65%)
- 19 of 40 games in 25/26 (48%)
That's 110 games out of 203 (54%), of the 93 games he didn't play in, 84 were missed due to injury (41%).
I'm not asking for Martinez to be sold, they can trigger the option on his contract by a year to 2028 & make a decision next summer, but the club also cannot justify giving him a new, improved contract now.
And this doesn't mean it has to be a premium, top of the market signing. There is tons of value in the CB market to find someone in the Senne Lammens, Patrick Dorgu price range/mould of player.
Martinez has had continued leg injuries, Matthijs de Ligt is recovering from back surgery, Harry Maguire is 33 & had injuries, Ayden Heaven & Leny Yoro should be playing more but a CB injury crisis isn't far away.
I've long maintained the club needs six CBs this season. They can prepare for the future now while adding to the options they have & will regret it if they ignore this position now.
So many decisions wrong in one game of football. Worse performance I’ve seen from a manager in my life. He shouldn’t be allowed to manage another game after Saturday.
Now that the dust has settled, here are my thoughts. Tuchel was 100% at fault for England crashing out. When he made the Konsa sub you just knew he was reverting to the same setup as he did against Mexico. He had a pass to do it in that game because they were down to 10…
The Argentines thought they won the lotto when Tuchel decided to chuck on 3 defenders when going a goal up. O’Reilly was way too narrow, practically allowed the best player that has ever played the game to whip crosses in. Tuchel should’ve had a word…
Kept Maguire at home but knew you would sit back when going a goal up in knockout football? MAGUIRE WAS BORN FOR THAT. Thank goodness United didn’t hire this fraud
The worse in game management I’ve ever seen from a manager in my life. You were on the front foot when you went ahead and decided to lump on defenders and sit back. Makes zero sense. Suicidal from Tuchel. The FA need to bin him now. No excuse for that from a tactically POV

Ederson and Santos? This club is an absolute joke. Appointing a manager that has nearly no experience at a top club and giving him those two is ludicrous. We deserve to be where we are
Heartbreaking. We gave it a massive go but that’s football. These players can be proud of that showing today. Wasn’t even tipped to get out the group at the start of this WC. This group will be back in ‘30. Massive potential. Mbokazi’s phone will be ringing after that performance
