We had Magnus Carlsen for a full day in Hong Kong. We used every hour of it.
The morning opened a room the city rarely sees, 150 names from AI, finance and technology at the Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel, with Magnus and @ysiu of @animocabrands on stage on where the game goes next.
By night it was the whole chess world. We sat Magnus at a board where both players cast spells and opened the @FIDE_chess World Team Championships.
> A simul against 24 players and one @Chessnutech2022 AI
> 4 challengers who earned their seat through the Anichess bracket: @AMKazarian, @EllaijioB , Cabbage and Dreams
> A few hundred in the room, the rest watching live and exclusive on @opensea
> @akaNemsko and @jesusislord running the floor all night
Some of the people in that room grew up watching this guy win world titles. For one day, they shared it with him.
That is what Anichess does. We bring the Magic.
One day, one city, the whole chess world watching. That was us.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, on the ground and on the stream.
Recently at @superai_conf in Singapore I had the pleasure to share my thoughts with @FortuneMagazine why I believe Asia has a real opportunity to lead the convergence of AI and blockchain.
True autonomous agency requires economic agency be it human or AI which we believe is a core principle of capitalism and places that have discomfort with capitalism tend to also dislike the idea that blockchain and AI are a natural match. In Europe, and to a lesser extent the US, there is an attempt to divide blockchain, crypto and AI as unrelated whereas in Asia we are far more at ease with the idea that AI and economic agency must come together to be much more effective.
For AI to operate autonomously at scale, it must be able to transact, negotiate, pay, and exchange value. Blockchain is the ideal decentralized infrastructure that can do this securely, transparently at internet scale.
We're heading toward a future with potentially hundreds of billions of AI agents. They won't just assist us they'll interact with each other, and us, economically. When that happens cheaper, faster, permissionless systems will win. Blockchain is the finance and banking rails for AI agents. National economies that have embraced capitalism have broadly outperformed those that have not. If we believe that agents (such as our minds) are going to be key economic actors we have to accept that they will require financial autonomy and the businesses who understand this first will have a distinct advantage.

On 16 June, four players get to take on @MagnusCarlsen at Anichess.
Most of them have to win an open arena to get there.
Two don't.
The top two on the Standard leaderboard skip the arena and take a direct seat in Sunday's knockout.
The board freezes this Saturday, 13 June, 00:00 UTC.
