Togo 🇹🇬 is leading a push to correct how Africa appears on world maps. The country plans to ask United Nations members to adopt a more accurate map.

Backed by the African Union, the “Correct The Map” campaign supports replacing the Mercator projection with the Equal Earth projection.

The Mercator map makes Africa look smaller than it is. In reality, Africa covers about 30 million square kilometres, larger than the United States, China, India and Europe combined.

The goal is to improve how Africa is shown in education, media and global discussions.
