This photo captures Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis during the 1970s, a decade that saw the couple living between Paris, New York, and the private Greek island of Skorpios. Their 1968 marriage had shocked much of the world, as Jackie, the widow of President John F. Kennedy, wed one of the wealthiest and most controversial men in Europe. The union symbolized both reinvention and retreat Jackie’s desire for privacy and security after years of public scrutiny met Onassis’s world of immense wealth, yachts, and power.

Their relationship was as complex as it was high-profile. Onassis was nearly three decades her senior, known for his sharp business acumen and tumultuous personal life, while Jackie brought grace, intellect, and the enduring fascination of the Kennedy legacy. Despite frequent separations and public speculation, they remained married until Onassis’s death in 1975.

After Onassis’s passing, Jackie inherited an estimated $26 million settlement from his estate, cementing her financial independence. She went on to work as a book editor in New York, quietly rebuilding a private life far removed from both the White House and the world of European aristocracy.
