3 min Shorts will act like long-form videos for the next little while, as the systems update to handle them as Shorts

So, if a sub has the bell set to 'All', they'll get a notification on upload, like a long-form video

(When the system is fully updated, they'll work like any other Shorts and never trigger notifications on upload, even for subs with the bell set to 'All', but only 'personalized' if/when the system thinks it's a good time to recommend them over notification)

🚨 They won't show up as Shorts right away...

📲 3 min Shorts should start showing up in the feed within a week

👖 It'll take longer for them to show up as Shorts across every part of YouTube (lots of systems need updating!)

✨ It may also take a while for the recommendations algorithm to learn how to balance short Shorts vs. long Shorts in individual feeds, so don't expect any early-mover over-serving

Some Thumbnail Test & Compare (A/B Testing) best practices I’ve found helpful:

🕰️ Test immediately for core audience, test (again) 72+ hours later for casual audience, much later for evergreen

😮 Start with bigger differences (eg layouts/elements) and get more granular later (eg facial expression/shirt color)

👀 Focus on watch time. CTR can lead to click bait which can lead to abandonment which can tank performance. Watch time gives both click/promise and retention/reward

😬 Be patient and be curious. Not all tests will end with statistically significant results. If at first you don’t get insights, experiment, learn, and test again!

🤔 It’s not just about one video’s performance but about learning how the audience reacts to your thumbnails over time to grow your skills and lift your whole channel(s)
