We are pleased to welcome Dr. Monica Navia-Urrutia to the Everglades REC team. She recently joined EREC as an Assistant Professor in the Plant Pathology Department.
Dr. Navia-Urrutia's research and extension will focus on plant pathology of sugarcane, sod, and rice. @EvergladesREC
Last Friday, I attended the #LSU Plant Science Symposium, where our Soil Science Society of America president Dr. @daroublab shared insights into her professional career. It was an inspiring presentation! #SSSA#LSUAgCenter
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Niguss Solomon Hailegnaw to the @EvergladesREC team. He recently joined EREC as an Assistant Professor in the Agronomy Department.
Dr. Hailegnaw will be working on nutrient management of sugarcane, sweet corn, rice, and various vegetables. He will also serve as the Director of the Everglades Soil Testing Lab. #IFAS #UF

@EvergladesREC had the pleasure of being invited to the annual Farm City Luncheon sponsored by @BaptistHealthSF . It was a great opportunity to connect with governmental, community, and business leaders throughout Palm Beach County. This also included a panel discussion which featured our Center Director, Dr. Samira Daroub, discussing sustainable agriculture and food security @CPBChamber@PBHChamber@FlaFarmBureau
The UF/IFAS Spray Rodeo Field Day was a great success with several high school students form Glades Day FFA @gladesdayschool and Glades Central FFA in attendance at @EvergladesREC. These students had the opportunity to get hands-on with spray equipment calibration and learn more about pest management. @UF_IFAS@NationalFFA

Undergraduates studying agronomy and related fields have gathered at #ACSMtg to recognize excellence in their clubs.
Sydney Masserant, president of the Michigan State University Agronomy Club, summarizes their impressive work, such as the ag olympics, crop judging and more.
The 2024 @ASA_CSSA_SSSA#ASCMtg opened on a meaningful note, acknowledging the Indigenous people of South Texas with a traditional dance by the American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions (a nonprofit based in San Antonio). A powerful way to kick off the meeting!
