Let’s talk about this idea that Jews somehow feel superior - an accusation thrown around by those who don’t seem to understand the depth of Jewish history. It’s easy to claim “Jewish supremacy” when you’ve never lived through what Jews have. But this claim completely misses the point. What people take as arrogance or a feeling of superiority isn’t that at all. It’s survival.

For thousands of years, Jews have been one of the smallest populations in the world, yet consistently faced the greatest hostilities. They were marginalized, blamed, hunted, and persecuted from every angle, no matter where they fled. And how did they respond? Not by putting their existence over others or claiming they were better, but by turning inward. By developing the one thing that couldn’t be taken away 'their minds'. In a world where Jews were constantly treated as less than human, they had no choice but to hold on to a belief that they were more than the world around them.

And it wasn’t just a belief, becuase In medieval Europe, while millions of people couldn’t even read, Jews were studying the Talmud, learning languages, and engaging in deep moral and religious debates. While the world was enslaved by total ignorance, Jews were sharpening their intellect. It wasn’t about supremacy at all, it was purely survival. Because when everything was denied, like owning property, their dignity, and even the right to live, Jews turned to education, to intelligence, to the strength of their minds as a way to hold onto something, anything. It wasn’t about looking down on others, it was about maintaining the minimum sense of worth in a world determined to strip it away.

Imagine being a Jewish family in a tiny isolated village, living under the boot of a drunken lord who ruled by pure bad impulse, not reason. Or facing pogroms by ignorant mobs who barely knew what century they lived in. In those moments, Jews didn’t have power; they didn’t have armies or wealth to protect them. What they had was intellect. So they held onto it tightly, and if that meant telling themselves, “We are more than this,” it was because they had to. When you're surrounded by chaos, holding on to the belief that you are part of something ancient, educated, and refined isn’t arrogance, it’s survival.

In the modern world, after the Holocaust, after centuries of exile and bloodshed, Jews finally began to have a chance, not because they felt superior, but because they fought for the right to exist. They started to thrive, not out of arrogance, but out of pure survival instinct. Generations of Jewish families, trained to value education and critical thinking above all, passed those qualities on. And in a world that finally began to value intellect, that paid off in the form of visible accomplishments in fields like science, technology, finance, and more.

And here’s the thing: today, Jews don’t see themselves as “more” than anyone else. The world has evolved, and so has the Jewish community. The defensive attitude of the past, once necessary for survival, is no longer needed. We don’t walk around with the mindset that we’re “better” than others. But if you still think Jews hold themselves above you, maybe the issue isn’t with us, it’s with how you are seeing things.

We don’t need to feel superior. We’ve learned the hard way that survival has nothing to do with arrogance and everything to do with resilience. So, the next time someone claims Jews feel "more" than others, remember this: we don’t. We’ve just had to be more, to fight harder, to think sharper, and to survive longer in a world that’s constantly tried to break us. If you think that makes us superior, then maybe it's time to ask why that bothers you so much.

The response to the liberation of four innocent Israeli hostages is such a clear indicator of the times we live in.

Israeli forces went to save four innocents being held in a crowded residential area by a rabidly antisemitic terrorist organisation. One hostage was reportedly rescued from the home of a doctor and his Al Jazeera journalist son, who apparently also worked for Hamas. Al Jazeera has been strenuously denying this.

When Hamas realised what was happening, they rushed to attack with the intention of killing everyone in their way. They sprayed bullets and fired rocket-propelled grenades.

Who knows how many Gazans died? Nobody can trust the Hamas figures. Probably many. Some will have been Hamas terrorists, others will have been residents caught in the firefight.

The Israeli forces fought their way out and evacuated the hostages alive.

Arnon Zmora, a 36-year-old father of two young children, fell in battle. He led from the front, and his face joins the images of so many other heroes lost in the defence of Israel. Today the Last Post sounded at the cemetery at Mount Herzl and his family buried “an amazing partner, a perfect father”.

Noa Argamani was reunited with family, but her mother’s brain cancer had advanced during her captivity to the extent that her family are unsure whether Noa’s mother even understood that her daughter had been brought home.

Almog Meir Jan’s aunt rushed to tell her brother of the wonderful news that his son had been rescued. As she entered the flat where he had shut himself away, hardly eating, emaciated, glued to the news for eight months, she realised to her horror that he had passed away just hours before the rescue, stricken by grief.

Who knows what Noa and Almog have been through in Gaza, along with fellow rescued hostages Andrey Kozlov and Shlomi Ziv. Who knows what is being done to the other hostages right now.

Hamas — which had been sitting on yet another American ceasefire-for-hostage-release offer for more than a week — reacted furiously. They called the rescue a “horrific massacre”.

It was not long before media outlets, including the BBC, and politicians were echoing the Hamas lines. It was a “massacre”, a “bloodbath”, and the rescue must be condemned “in the strongest possible terms”, said the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell. The UN Special Rapporteur in the area, Francesca Albanese, said that the rescue operation was a “crystal clear” case of “genocidal intent turned into action”.

In Israel — a nation saddened and traumatised both by Hamas’ atrocity of 7th October, by the ensuing war, and by the familiar treachery of some in the West — there was relief. A cheer rose up along Tel Aviv beach. Strangers shouted “Am Israel Chai” (the people of Israel live) to each other in the street. People wrote “Rescued” on “Kidnapped” posters showing the faces of the four liberated hostages. Campaigners subtracted four from the count of hostages still in Gaza, some thought to be alive, some thought to be dead.

The sign of our times is that a divide exists at all. Humanity should be on one side here. We should all be relieved that four hostages have returned home. We should be yearning for the return of the others still in Gaza. We should stand with those in Israel and Gaza who are mourning innocents because of the 7th October atrocity and the ensuing war, fought by Hamas while hiding out in residential areas, and even hospitals and schools.

If you hate the Jewish state for rescuing its people, or if you do not condemn Hamas for committing its atrocity, waging its war, and hiding innocent hostages amongst the Gazan population, then your true nature is laid bare. You are desperate to vilify Jews who defend themselves and rescue their innocents. You are not on the side of humanity. The Jewish people have seen your like before.

This morning, in a joint special operation held by the @IDF, ISA and the Israeli Police 4 Israeli hostages were rescued from Gaza:

Noa Argamani (25)
Almog Meir Jan (21)
Andrey Kozlov (27)
Shlomi Ziv (40)

They are in good medical condition and have been transferred to the 'Sheba' Tel-HaShomer Medical Center for further medical examinations.

The 4 were kidnapped by the Hamas terrorist organization from the 'Nova' music festival on October 7th.

The hostages were rescued from two separate locations in the heart of Nuseirat.

The security forces will continue to make every effort to bring the hostages home.

I have to say, by now, Jews are used to lies being told about us. We had generations to get used to it.

But the quantity of lies I am seeing now about Israel is like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

Not only are the lies everywhere but they’re also really ridiculous lies that anyone can disprove with about 30 seconds of Googling, which begs the question (it’s rhetorical. I think we both know the answer.), why are these otherwise intelligent people believing and even spreading these preposterous lies about the only Jewish state? 🤔

Israel doesn’t let aid into Gaza? Lie. A blatant lie that is so easy to disprove if you just look at the many photos and videos of the hundreds of trucks Israel has sent in.

Israel is committing a genocide and killing Gazans indiscriminately? Lie. If Israel wanted to commit genocide, the war would have been over before it started and Gaza would be flattened. Israel would have lost zero soldiers. Use your brain. It’s not that complicated.

Israel is ethically cleansing the Palestinians? This one is extra ridiculous. There were 156,000 Arabs in Israel in 1948. Wanna take a guess how many there are now? 2,100,00. Some cleansing. In Gaza, there were 80,000 and now? 2,000,000. Remember the brain we talked about? Remember what you should do with it? That’s right. Use it.

Israel made up or exaggerated October 7th so it could attack Gaza? Wow. Our haters are getting really creative. So Israel made up the GoPro footage? Israel convinced thousands of Palestinians actors to pretend they’re breaking into Israel, murdering, raping, and kidnapping over 1,200 Israelis? Got it. Dude. For real?

Israel has perpetrated sexual violence against Palestinian women? Well, that’s a deflection if I ever saw one. This one definitely makes the list of actual blood libels.

Israel has killed 30,000 women and children in Gaza. Really? And how many terrorists has Israel killed? Because according to the Hamas numbers, which you are quoting, everyone killed is either a woman, a child, or a journalist. No, really. According to them, zero terrorists have been killed. We’ve established that using your brain is difficult but this one even a 3rd grader can understand. You got this.

Israel is a racist/apartheid state? Ok, now I’m starting to really worry about your cognitive abilities. Do you know how many Christians and Arabs live freely in Israel? Google is your friend.

Israel intentionally bombs hospitals or homes? Finally, the first true thing you’ve said. Israel does. Wanna know why? Because Hamas uses them as terror bases leaving Israel no choice. Despite that, Israel makes sure to evacuate the structure before attacking. No other country would do that and get rid of the element of surprise.

Let’s make a deal. I’m not asking you to love Israel. Not asking you to become a Netanyahu fan. Not even asking you to give up on the notion that there should be a ceasefire. Just asking you one thing.

You were given a brain. Use it.
