Economist @DarrickHamilton: "It is no surprise that by the 1970s, at a time when the unionization rates of black Americans exceeded those of white Americans, there was an attack on organized labor, civil rights and government intervention more generally. Corporate elites framed the social, political, and economic gains of black Americans as a threat to the economic and cultural positioning of whites and the white working class. What followed were policies that pushed for deregulation, tax cuts for the wealthy, punitive control of the underclass, and the dismantling of labor organizing. Thinly veiled stigmatization based on anti-blackness was strategically used as political fodder to divide the working class by race, characterizing government actions on behalf of social welfare as inefficient and unfairly biased towards tipping the scales to undeserving “welfare queens”, “super predators”, and “deadbeat dads”. Zohran Mamdani is doing sewer socialism -- addressing the little things that make life in New York a little more expensive and a little more annoying -- hoping that if people see he's trying on the small stuff, they'll trust him on the big stuff, too. https://t.co/IbIvKXLTVs
The UAW supports Medicare for All because everyone deserves quality healthcare. M4A would also strengthen our hand at the bargaining table to fight for better wages, time off, and retirement security for every UAW member.
We ALL win with Medicare for All.
Ever heard of deed theft? It’s when someone uses deception or coercion to transfer ownership of a home without the homeowner’s informed consent, and it’s a crisis affecting Black communities in NY and beyond.
"If not for Frances Perkins, Social Security, as Americans understand the program today, would not have been created."
A timely reminder that Social Security was built through intentional political choices and can be strengthened through them, too.

At least 530 workers died from heat-related causes on the job last year. As temperatures rise, workers need stronger protections. Every worker deserves water, shade, rest and the right to come home safely at the end of the day.

Grocery margins are low is a frequently rehashed point to argue against Mamdani’s public grocery stores.
Grocery is indeed a low margin business. But its median return on invested capital is above that for all firms, so it is NOT a low profitability business.
Let me explain. 🧵
