Shocking! Govt said 2,873 people with serious criminal cases were present at Jantar Mantar and sought a special carve out in the Supreme Court order quashing the FIRs against protestors to pursue them. Now the Indian Express report says 25 of those being reported as being present at the Jantar Mantar protest were actually in jail!!
Raises very troubling questions:
-Did the police and govt mislead the court about the presence of these people at Jantar Mantar?
-If these people were indeed at Jantar Mantar, were they out on bail on that day or were they taken there by the Police?
-Is the Facial Recognition Technology being used by Delhi Police so inaccurate and unreliable that it is throwing up wrong matches at scale?
Serious questions also arise about the scrutiny of evidence by the Supreme Court while passing the order. The court must immediately ask for relevant records and get to the bottom of this.
PLAYING WITH FIRE | The rupee was losing its value at nearly the rate of acceleration due to gravity until recently. It reached the point of hitting a century, and Mahamanav would have lost face completely.
This was happening because foreign investors were not investing; they were taking money out, and Indians were also taking their money out, while imports increased and exports reduced.
Now, RBI was pushed to create an FCNR(B) scheme that allows banks to receive US dollar deposits at domestic FD rates of 6.5–7% for a term of 3–5 years. Earlier, banks used to take the exchange-rate risk and give 3–3.5% interest on US dollar deposits.
The FCNR(B) scheme is basically RBI taking the risk instead of banks. Therefore, banks can give higher interest rates, as RBI guarantees to return the same USD amounts it took from them after three or five years.
RBI raised around $127.226B using this scheme, which is ₹12.09 lakh crore at an exchange rate of ₹95. If the economic situation does not improve and the rupee depreciates further over the next few years, the country will have to pay a huge price to save Mahamanav’s face.
If the dollar hits ₹100, RBI will lose just ₹64,000 crore.
If the rupee drops to ₹110, the loss will be ₹191,000 crore.
If the rupee drops to ₹120, the loss will be ₹318,000 crore.
And if the rupee reaches ₹130, the loss will be ₹445,000 crore.
Now, Bhakts will argue that the UPA government did the same in 2013. Here’s the difference.
In 2013, the rupee started depreciating because of a global phenomenon called the taper tantrum. After the 2008 financial crisis, the US ran an easy-money policy by pumping cash into the economy. In 2013, it stopped the easy-money policy, which increased US bond yields (interest rates) by 1%. This drove foreign investors back to the US, and they sold off some of their holdings in developing countries, including India.
So, the dollar dropped to ₹64 in 2013, and in September 2013, RBI introduced an FCNR scheme for the first time and raised $24 billion. RBI could take this risk because it felt that the rupee was undervalued at ₹64 and would return to higher values after the taper tantrum ended. And it was right. The rupee climbed back to ₹56 later. In fact, when RBI had to pay the banks back in 2016–17, the exchange rate was back at ₹62–64, and it did not make any loss.
Is that the case now? Our exchange rate is collapsing because of internal weakness. Our exports are dwindling, while imports are climbing steadily. On top of that, our Stupid Ji committed to buying $500 billion worth of American goods over the next five years. Meanwhile, our exports to the US are reducing, and so are our exports to China. And oil prices are going to stay high as well.
Do you see where this is going? The rupee is supposed to have hit ₹100+ by now, going by its real value. And RBI is trying to catch a falling knife just to protect the face of Mahamanav. Nothing else.
We’ve written this down to warn you, to make you aware, and to record it. In the future, when the country has to pay the price for the Modi era, this will be one of the biggest penalties our future generations will have to pay for the past mistake of electing a clown to power.
If you are still not convinced, read about Mahamanav’s Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme.
Sanjeev Sanyal just said the quiet part out loud.
They delayed the GDP base-year update for years. Then they changed it. And he admitted on camera what that does: you drop old dying sectors from the basket and add younger, high-growth ones. After that, the growth number “looks good.”
That is not an Opposition talking point. That is the PM’s own economic advisor explaining why 7.8% arrived after the series change.
If the number is so clean, why did he have to warn people in advance not to complain once the base year was updated?
@neelkanthmishra The downward revision was more than 6 lakh crore. Even as a percentage of that quarter GDP this is significant. Let govt clarify the break up. This government has image of doing anything and everything for headline management. They have lost confidence of people. @Ajay_Bagga .
Kudos! The Allahabad HC on today quashed the National Security Act (NSA) detention of Aakriti Chaudhary, a 25-year-old Delhi University history graduate who has been in custody for around 5 months in connection with the Noida workers' protest of April 2026 https://t.co/wMdxOjbCYQ
I checked Mr. Garg’s claim on the 7.8% GDP growth. There is a genuine issue in the numbers, but the claim that actual growth is only around 2.6% is not correct.
Last year’s Q1 nominal GDP was earlier estimated at ₹86.05 lakh crore. Under the new GDP series, the same quarter became roughly ₹80 lakh crore. So yes, around ₹6 lakh crore was knocked off from the estimate of the same quarter. That is a huge change and @GoIStats should explain it properly.
But Mr. Garg compares the old ₹86.05 lakh crore with this year’s ₹88.27 lakh crore calculated under the new methodology. That mixes two different measurements. We do not know what this year’s GDP would have been under the old method.
What is more interesting is that this reduction is not limited to last year.
Q1 GDP was reduced by roughly 6.4% in 2022 23, 7% in 2023 24, 6.3% in 2024 25 and 6.7% in 2025 26. Q2 also falls around 6%. Q3 and Q4 generally fall much less.
So the stronger question is not why only last year was reduced. It was not. The question is why the new methodology consistently makes the first half of the financial year much smaller than the old methodology.
The sector changes are also very large.
Agriculture actually goes up around 9.5%.
Manufacturing falls around 12%.
Construction falls around 7%.
Trade, hotels and transport fall around 15%.
Public administration, defence and other services fall nearly 19%.
Finance, real estate and professional services fall around 5%.
Taxes hardly change. So most of the ₹6 lakh crore reduction comes from re-estimating the value actually produced by these sectors and from the new way annual activity is distributed between quarters.
This deserves scrutiny, but it does not prove that 7.8% growth is fake. Nor should a statistical revision automatically be accepted merely because it produces a better headline number. @GoIStats should publish a simple sector wise explanation of exactly why Q1 and Q2 repeatedly shrink so sharply under the new series.
For me, however, GDP is ultimately only a number. I do not cherish 7% or 8% growth unless it reaches ordinary people through good government schools, affordable healthcare, clean air and water, functioning cities and better public services.
If growth is cornered by a few while education, health and environment are sacrificed and public money continues to disappear through corruption and inefficiency, there is little to celebrate in a higher GDP number.

@1shankarsharma Tempted to debate the actual growth rate, but the moment Modi proudly took credit for the 7.8% GDP figure, it became crystal clear that the numbers are fake.
I don't want to get into this GDP growth debate. I lost interest in this data point a while back.
Instead I go with " Real Feel" GDP growth.
India,$4 trln , growing ~7%: Crashing quality of life. Janata looks stressed. Traffic looks chaotic.
Cities & villages look GDP of a $ 100 billion country not 4 trln.
"Real Feel" : GDP growth of 2-3%
Europe: GDP growth: ~ 2-3%. Janata looks happy. Khushhali - happiness everywhere. Everything looks super chic, organised. Clean. Cafes, restaurants buzzing, music on the streets. Lovely villages.
"Real Feel": GDP growth of 7.8%
