It’s hard to imagine many people having a bigger impact than Dolly Parton. Born in a one-room cabin, she earned 11 Grammys and an Emmy, built a business empire, helped millions of kids learn to read, and — as if that wasn’t enough — helped accelerate the research that led to the Moderna COVID vaccine. What a life. Michelle and I are thinking of Dolly’s family and her many, many fans.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life fighting for equity and justice. He taught us that even in the face of intimidation and discrimination, we must never stop working towards a better future – a lesson that feels especially relevant today.
Change has never been easy. It takes persistence and determination, and requires all of us to speak out and stand up for what we believe in. As we honor Dr. King today, let’s draw strength from his example, and do our part to build on his legacy.
During a recent visit to the nearly completed Obama Presidential Center campus, President Obama could barely contain his excitement. Home Court—the new athletic and community center—is finished, the landscaping is coming in, and the vision is truly coming to life."I could not be more excited, because I know not just people here on the south side of Chicago, but visitors from all around the world are going to be able to use this space in an active way.”
Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter.
It’s almost Election Day, and there are so many important state and local races on the ballot.
Whether it’s governors, mayors, or school boards, the leaders we choose will make decisions that affect our daily lives for years to come. That means no matter who’s in charge in Washington, we can still make progress on health care, affordability, gerrymandering, reproductive freedom, gun safety, climate, and so many of the issues that matter to us.
