NSW is the appropriate comparison with Victoria. Victoria let their testing dip down to 4k/day for a week, which in NSW terms would be 4.6k/day. NSW has been consistently above that level. If you don't test, you don't find, and you don't isolate or contact trace either.

It looks like Victoria is getting more serious about a COVID-19 drive to elimination by identifying areas by active case load. A "defeat in detail" approach can then be employed. Mimic the national experience (CV-free states) but within Vic, rinse, repeat. https://t.co/P0HZQwnXsU

It looks like COVID19 elimination is possible in the non-Victorian states. Why not in Victoria too? Vic testing has slackened right off. Masks and fever screening would help. Maybe a regional approach to isolate, test all, and crush virus numbers is needed too. #covid19au

4) Vic testing is pretty good, their testing has really helped to stabilize the number of new cases it seems. I have to wonder whether a blanket testing of affected suburbs would be in order. Big payoff in being able to eliminate this in Australia and get on with life.
