Mpho and Mphonyana Mathibela made history when they were born conjoined at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital on December 7, 1986. The twin girls were joined at the head, and after careful consideration, a decision was made to surgically separate them. The successful separation surgery took place in 1988.
