Spending an entire round on it didn't make much sense to me, especially when we already have 2 system design and architecture rounds here.

Having said that, a coding round makes much more sense/value for junior roles vs mid/senior roles imo.

One major change in my interview structure lately is this:

I don’t see any value in a coding round anymore tbh

Instead, I structured my rounds to focus more on system design, problem solving and architecture skills

Coding seems to be a solved problem now

@ShowRounak Yes + keep building things. And then brainstorm about them with a mentor (or even Claude/chatgpt)

Building systems and iteratively improving them teaches a ton of things around software arch best practices and also helps shape how you look at things like latency, etc.

The research folks in my team have also automated parts of evals engineering, docs, RL loops via agents in CC and cursor
