I was talking to an elderly woman the other day, and she casually mentioned that the house she lives in is actually hers. She bought the property herself, but hardly anyone knows.

She then told me about when she got a big contract years ago. She wanted to buy a car, but her father stopped her and told her to buy land instead. She did. Then she put her husband's name on the documents.

Her father was furious.

He asked her, "Why would you do that? What if he leaves you? What if he marries another woman? What if he becomes abusive? Why would you put yourself in that position?"

It's funny because so many men seem convinced that fathers raise daughters to trust men, depend on men, and prepare to serve husbands.

But in reality, many fathers are the very first people warning their daughters to protect themselves from men. Brothers do it too.

There's a huge disconnect between what many men think fathers teach their daughters and what many fathers are actually teaching them.
