Many Nigerians think xenophobia requires a different passport. And so they ignorantly say: Nigeria is not xenophobic. That is the whole problem, and it is exactly why I keep saying people need to read.

Xenophobia is hatred and fear of foreigners. Nothing in that definition insists on a border crossing or requires a visa stamp. You become "foreign" the moment you stand in front of someone who has decided your ethnic nationality disqualifies you from belonging where you were born, where you pay tax, where your children go to school. Nigeria runs this exact machinery internally, constantly, and often proudly. It does it in person and in the streets. In newspapers and on the internet.

In Lagos politicians stood in public and threatened to expel Igbo residents from a city they've lived in and built for generations, a city many of them were born in. They threatened ethnic expulsion, against citizens, inside their own country.

Ask the Yoruba candidate whose Igbo parent got him branded in the newspapers as having "tainted blood." A grown man, running for office, and the press ran with the language of genetic contamination because one parent came from the wrong ethnic group. That is xenophobia.

Ask anyone who has tried to buy land, or run for office, in the town where they were born, and hit a wall because their father or grandfather was not originally from there. Nigeria law says they're entitled to it but the "indigene" logic says otherwise, and the indigene logic wins, every time, because although it isn't written down anywhere it merely has to be enforced socially and politically.

The only thing standing between "citizen" and "alien" in far too many Nigerian towns and cities is which ethnic nationality your family happens to belong to and that is a distinction Nigerians defend fiercely, right up until someone points out that it is the same poison they claim to hate when South Africans dish it to them.

To all the Supermarkets and big commercial stores that operate 'Self Check-outs'....... You are heading towards almost exclusively self-checkout now. Yesterday I went shopping at one such store and the lady checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone.
I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, I had already filled my trolly, emptied my trolly and scanned the items, refilled my trolly and so I just skipped the exit line and left.
I heard her saying "Umm - Excuse me “ as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store.
You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be.

On this day in 1919, a Black teenager drifted across an invisible line in Lake Michigan. White beachgoers stoned him until he drowned. He was 17.

His name was Eugene Williams. The "line" was the unofficial boundary between the white and Black sections of a Chicago beach. A line drawn on WATER.

Police arrived. Black witnesses pointed out the man who had thrown the stones. The officer refused to arrest him and arrested a Black man from the crowd instead.

That refusal lit Chicago on fire. Thirteen days of white mobs raiding Black neighborhoods, and Black veterans fighting back: 38 dead, 537 injured, roughly 1,000 Black families burned out of their homes.

The OP_RETURN data limit sat at 83 bytes for years. That is 80 bytes of data plus three for the opcode. Nobody has ever named one payment it blocked. Not one.

The pull request to remove it, #32359, drew 418 thumbs down against 105 thumbs up in Core's own repository. Four to one against.

Peter Todd filed it. Then, on 4 May 2025, he said this in public:

"For the record, this pull-req wasn't my idea. I was asked to open it by an active Core dev because entities like Citrea are using unprunable outputs instead of OP_Return, due to the size limits."

Citrea is a company. It raised 14 million dollars in October 2024, led by Founders Fund. One of the investors in that round is Jameson Lopp, who posted "Concept ACK" on that pull request the day it opened.

Five days later the same change was filed again under a different number, #32406. The first one was closed. The second was merged on 9 June 2025, by a maintainer funded by Brink until 2024 and by Chaincode Labs in 2025.

@hodlonaut documents that Core development runs on roughly ten to fourteen million dollars a year, from Chaincode, Brink and Spiral, and that Brink alone funds three maintainers.

And now a corporate Consortium offers to look after ₿itcoin's security.
