Today marks 16 years since the launch of the Bitcoin blockchain.
On January 3, 2009, an individual or group under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto launched the main network of the first cryptocurrency, creating the genesis block with 50 BTC. The hash of this block included the headline from The Times: 'Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.'
The founder later stepped away from the project, leaving it in the hands of the community, which continues to develop Bitcoin to this day.
