@the_hindu So you basically gave a full-page ad to a convicted rapist for free? Wouldn't it have been better to take the money and donate it to a women's rights organization?
Umar Khalid’s prolonged persecution exemplifies the derailment of justice in India as it makes a mockery of international human rights principles. The Government of India must immediately and unconditionally release student activist Umar Khalid.
Have always considered the anti women rule at Swaminarayan Temples preposterous. 1990s - Mom wasn’t allowed to visit, and my family walked off. Now these people want to go sightseeing as well? And spread this stupidity to international tourist destinations. Despicable.
CJP Impact
After yesterday’s meeting in Kadoli village, Hingoli, officials visited and reviewed the school for the first time in many years and have finally decided to improve it.
Imagine the state of the BJP’s SM discourse that at least 3 of the four newly minted SM “convenors” have deleted entire timeline. And, they called Gen Z abusive
On 8 August 1942, the Quit India resolution was passed at Gowalia Tank. The next morning, with the leaders already under arrest, it was Aruna Asaf Ali who climbed up and raised the tricolour over the maidan.
Within days the newspapers were censored and the country went dark. Into that silence, a 22-year-old student leaned into a microphone in a rented flat: "This is the Congress Radio calling on 42.34 metres, from somewhere in India."
Her name was Usha Mehta. She opened every broadcast with Sare Jahan Se Achha (a song the government had banned) and read out the news the Raj was working to bury.
For close to three months she carried a hidden transmitter from flat to flat — Chowpatty, Walkeshwar, Girgaon — a step ahead of British detector vans.
Then she was betrayed, arrested, and sent to Yerawada for four years. She gave up no one.
This week's column is about her, and about the women of the August Kranti who never waited for permission to resist.

Hundreds of students are protesting against alleged recruitment rackets, irregularities and paper leaks in government exams in Jharkhand. Recently, the CID arrested a government official, who was selling seats to government job aspirants for lakhs of rupees.
The target audience here is not GenZ. It's their parents. It's the subtle shaming and calling out their parenting as not aligned with govt. approved 'values', and communicating that the responsibility of stopping their children from protesting lies firmly with them.
"You know who the puncture repairers are."
At BJP's Delhi Gen Z summit, ex-MP Ramesh Bidhuri calls Jantar Mantar protesters 'puncture repairers' & 'locksmiths'. He also claimed many were Muslims told to hide their identity by wearing kalavas. @ekmazdoor

Delhi Police is frantically issuing takedown notices and filing FIRs to scrub social media of posts criticizing the Prime Minister during the recent protests, giving credence to the slogan “Jab jab Modi darta hai..”
But since when is an elected representative above questioning? In a functioning democracy, citizens have every right to demand answers and accountability from their PM. By treating online criticism as a criminal offense and a threat to "public order", the state machinery is sending a chilling message: the Prime Minister is beyond the reach of public scrutiny.
Why can’t ordinary people on social media ask questions to the very man they elected to serve them? Does the Delhi Police genuinely believe he is "non-biological" and therefore immune to the questions and frustrations of mere mortals?
Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth!
We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. Have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard. This continues our series of steps for safeguarding the interests of students.
Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared.
