@tom_peters YES! Reminded of your exceptional book “The Little Big Things: 163 Ways to Pursue Excellence.” First, I recall a ridiculous number of folks bitching in the comments about giving them more than 3 items to consider. Next, the 163 items gave one the tactics to go 25 ft or 3miles.
@RealMalachowski Applied the same mindset during my NCOIC/Superintendent days in the USAF. Spent several hours a week learning “new” tasks and staying current on our specialties critical processes. The “crew” felt valued and respected and I gained respect, credibility and trust. Win-Win!
@tom_peters The Carnegie quote? Spent 68 days/8 hrs min per day bedside supporting, advocating for a for a loved one. In patient hospital and short term rehab facility. Questions turned into conversations about goals, aspirations, and sharing our personal stories. Carnegie nailed it!
@tom_peters Amazing how anyone with a basic understanding of humility and emotional intelligence can translate these words into measurable positive outcomes. The absence of arrogance, ignorance, and ego in all relationships? Game changer!
@tom_peters Will borrow this formula with attribution of course. Dropping your name in the conversation has always given me credibility. That is so simple and powerful that some of the “smart” people might try to apply it in their day to day…
@RealMalachowski Step one…determine if it’s a “skill” issue or a “will” issue. Either way, the solution, and ultimately the outcome, will be an initiated jointly and immediately. Inaction is where the impact on the team begins.
@tom_peters I figured out b4 my first leadership role is that positional authority is a crutch used by the clueless. You recruit and secure allies when u realize CONTROL is counterproductive! My credibility, integrity, engagement, EQ however earns me the ability to INFLUENCE our outcomes.
@tom_peters Day 45 bedside supporting a friend in the hospital Always spend a few seconds and words talking to the nurses, techs, janitorial staff, food service crew cashiers etc. That they appreciate it and reciprocate isn’t the shocking part. That they said it’s so uncommon? So sad.
@tom_peters@mpawlo That’s the cool part. Almost a decade before the internet days. Library books. VHS tapes. I may have the beginning of a systematic clue but the WHY. WHAT, WHY, and HOW needed to translate “instincts”. into positive outcomes? Thank you Dr Peters!
@tom_peters@mpawlo Wow! We do share military service and “teaching” SMART the simplicity of leadership. You made it all make sense. You made the complex simple. You gave data and stories to “assign” meaning to show what right looks like. The passion/energy? Fugedaboutit. Made it easy to act on.
@Sharks771@Patriots Great to here all’s well. The past year or so has been infinitely “interesting” but returning to the an improved version of the old me. Nothing health related. Great to see the Pats turn around/transformation!
@RealMalachowski@OliviaJNunn Resilience and resurgence? Check. Grace and restraint? Check. Infinite Humility and EQ? Checked and set! You are pretty amazing Ma’am! Thanks for sharing your story and knowledge
