Production Designer Baywatch, Star Trek Picard, The Boys, Murdaugh: Death in the Family, Locke & Key, Preacher, Constantine, Justified, Pitch, Longmire, Rectify
The Production Design of #StarTrekPicard took hundreds of people behind the scenes. When we talk about credits, most of these talented craftspeople will not see their name on the screen. As we move into #EmmyFYC time, let's make sure they are all celebrated @ADG800@OfficialSDSA
Art Directors don't get Profit Participation regardless if you are union or non-union. Early on I worked on films with "deferred pay" which meant you got paid when the movie sold and made back its money. Spoiler Alert, never saw a dime. Take the credit, get the experience and make more on the next one. Curious if Inde Navarrette got profit participation as she killed it.
@Rahll I agree but we are in a nuclear arms race. This is a technology that levels the creativity playing field. It's like Creative Ozempic. A director/producer won't need me anymore as they can prompt their own designs. I can't stop that. It's already happening
You won't lose your job to AI. You will lose your job that knows how to use AI. Nice in theory but an amazing sketch artist may not be an amazing prompt writer. And you may go from being elite to making 1/4 of your pay. Every industry evolves and you have to evolve with it. Video Store, and Arcade owners, Sign Writers, film loaders all saw that he bottom fall out of their industry. Backrooms and Obsession showed the new generation of Filmmakers are here and can create amazing work. For less money, and that's the key. The challenge is that Spectacle is now easy to do. Audiences will get bored. Only so many times the city can get destroyed and be cool. What is the thing audiences will want NEXT is key.
Martin Scorsese has joined a generative AI startup as a partner and advisor.
He adds that he has used AI during pre-production to help with storyboarding — “with this tool, I can share what I’m visualizing more clearly & efficiently to my creative team — the production designer, art designer and cinematographer.”

Extremely Concerned, but also realistic. Designers and artists have always taken from others. That's how movements like Art Deco and Art Nouveau happen. Film artists see elements of photos buildings and other films and use that as inspiration. Changing it, but not always enough. If I read 1000 books on Art Deco and then design an Art Deco building, I am "stealing" from all of those books I just read. The styles, the methods, the details. I can say, well I studied, and went to school, but I am really just studying OTHER works and then using them as inspiration. I hate so much about AI and what's happening, and I know way more than most. It's not going to stop. When Anton Furst was doing Batman and designing Gotham city, he pulled directly from Shin Takamatsu's work. Stealing, Inspired? When Lebbeus Woods created "Neomechanical Tower (upper) Chamber", he wasn't designing a film, but when they did 12 Monkey's they pulled from his work. He sued and won. That was a huge legal shift in Hollywood. Now every piece of art needs to get cleared. The AI industry is poised on that fence. Once one lawsuit is won, things will crumble, but until then, AI is just "Going to School" on all of our work, and there is nothing we can do to stop it.
@Kavanthekid Fascinating work. I love that you are pushing your own stories with your own characters. Really liked what I have seen of the series so far.
@JiMSWEET_nOBODY Typo, but you got the meaning. Yes you are right. You can use AI two write your prompts, and write code. How do you put the genie back in the bottle? You can't. Try to find someone who knows how to do a Matte Painting and someone who knows how to shoot it. Technology evolves

@andyweirauthor on my 5th re-read. Did I miss it again. Is Rocky a non-water based life form? I don't know if it was explicitly noted or just Implicit but I thought that was the payoff of his initial idea.
Happy 96th Birthday Clint Eastwood. Here is my only Clint story. We were shooting "Justified" and Clint and his folks came by and said that they wanted to use our "Ava's House" set for a scene for "J.Edgar" they wouldn't do much to the set and, hell it was Clint. Hell yea. We shot there on a Friday and they came in over the weekend, added some fencing and added small carport. Damon Herriman who played Dewey Crow was in the scene we were doing on Friday. Come Monday, he is all excited because he is going to work on a Clint Eastwood movie for a small role. He drives to the assigned parking and they put him in a van to take him to set. It's then that he has a panic attack thinking that he had a brain fart and drove to the Justified set and not the J.Edgar set by mistake. He had no idea that they were using the same set for both shows. You can see Ava's House in the background briefly in J.Edgar. Clint is a true legend. We all need to appreciate him now, and let him know what his films have meant to us. A truly remarkable artist and filmmaker.
#StarTrekPicard “The Last Generation” was a very fitting name. This is the last of the last generation. The generation we love and the generation we have missed for a long time.
Probably the last time we’ll see ever them on screen again. Thank-you for the end, TNG crew 🖖🏻
Clickbait. Everybody got their autograph and selfie, the passage to the hotel was kept free for guests, and I still got to the airport on time. One man, no security. Handled. What’s your problem ?
