In Nevada, we know how important it is to manage our public lands responsibly. I spoke to Jocelyn Torres, a Nevadan with @ConservationLF, about how we manage our lands, and the potential impacts of irresponsible Republican proposals to sell them off for billionaire tax breaks.
SCOOP: Huge news for western states. The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that Sen. Mike Lee’s proposal to allow the sale of millions of acres of federal land fails to comply with the Byrd Rule. Montana/Idaho GOP senators have said they oppose it as well.
I’m told this decision will be included in the batch of Byrd rulings slated to be released overnight tonight.
New: Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.) tells me that he believes the provision mandating the sale of public lands in Nevada and Utah has been stripped out and will be reflected in the managers amendment.
Zinke had said this was a redline . Nevada GOP Rep Mark Amodei was pushing for it.
Lee: "Amodei did not consult local authorities in Southern Nevada, and it shows, because he clearly doesn't understand the relationship between water and development and housing costs"
Now Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) is testifying on behalf of an amendment against the Utah portions of public land sales, saying the parcel sales could jeopardize Colorado River negotiations
"Who would then pay for things like water, parks and schools? Nevada homeowners."
Happening now in the Rules Committee: Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) testifying in favor of an amendment to strip the Clark County land sale provisions from the reconciliation bill
"Let the people of Southern Nevada have a say in what happens to their public treasures"
Under the cover of darkness, Republicans just approved a lands sale bill with nothing set aside for conservation and no SNPLMA money. This means less funding for outdoor recreation, protecting ecosystems, and wildfire prevention. It’s the land grab I predicted.

💧 Clean air, safe drinking water, and access to the outdoors are values we all share. We’ll continue fighting for the lands and waters we all love and need. Know that together, we got this. 💚
