"When you make a mistake, own up to it and move on—quickly. Don’t gloss over it, but don’t dwell on it, either. Moving on means you stop talking about the mistake, release yourself from false guilt, and take the initiative to head in more healthy directions." #wisdomwednesday
LaVonne Neff states “Good results will not sanctify bad doctrine, but bad results can serve as warning lights, even where [the] teaching appears sound.... What happens to members’ personalities, relationships, job commitments, community involvement?” #leadersbooksummaries
"The single biggest structural problem facing leaders of meetings is the tendency to throw every type of issue that needs to be discussed into the same meeting. Unfortunately, this only ensures that the meeting will be ineffective and unsatisfying for everyone" (Death By Meeting)
"Many good-hearted people in your church would love to serve...but they lack a mechanism to turn desire into action. They need to know how many are needed, when they are needed, and how long they will be needed. Service only happens when inclination meets opportunity."
Think about giving the work back to the people who need to take responsibility. Place the work within the factions who are faced with the challenge, and tailor your interventions so they are unambiguous and have a context. This is how you stay alive in the practice of leadership.
Take a step that requires tremendous faith in God. Most struggling churches only take steps that need few resources, few prayers, and little sacrifice. The uncomfortable holy risk requires God-sized faith, God-sized prayer, and God-sized sacrifice that can be very uncomfortable.
It is not easy to be natural before an audience. Be yourself. You have individuality. As a speaker, it is your most precious possession. It is the spark that will put force and sincerity into your speaking.#leadersbooksummaries#wisdomwednesday#beyourself#benatural#besincere
"We can’t live and lead in a state of fear and inactivity. Do not sit on the sidelines. As followers of Jesus, if we are not chasing after something that is much bigger than we are—and there is no way we could ever accomplish it without God—then we are playing it too safe."
Every leader in your church must see that they are not just leading a small group but are leading a group of potential small group leaders. Those who lead your welcome teams must move beyond getting the task done to seeing themselves doing on-the-job training for future leaders.
"Time for evaluation needs to be intentionally set aside. Evaluating exposes areas that need to be improved as well as identifying areas that need to be celebrated. Celebration energizes people to continue pushing forward." #leadersbooksummaries # taketime #evaluate#celebrate
"I believe in the power of focus. Any concerted effort to keep a speech confined to a single objective will improve that presentation dramatically. The lack of such effort can destroy the potential power of your talk." #leadersbooksummaries#wisdomwednesday#communication#focus
Learn to delegate. Enlist others to save you time. Hire support staff to do staff functions. An organization isn’t saving money if highly paid professionals are spending their time stuffing envelopes. #leadersbooksummaries#wisdomwednesday#delegate#support#save
When rightly understood and functioning properly, our conscience is a valuable early warning device. But those who let their conscience be their definitive guide and ultimate arbitrator of right or wrong get into trouble. #leadersbooksummaries#wisdomwednesday#studyleadership
Dealing with transition starts with letting go of the old reality you had before the change. Organizations often overlook that process and the feelings of loss it creates. In doing so, they nearly guarantee that the transition will be mismanaged and that the change will go badly.
What’s in front of you is rarely all there is. Developing the tendency to ask questions like “What do I wish I knew?” and “What additional information would help inform my decision?” can make you a far better decision maker.

Small groups require leaders who are being coached. When one leader can’t care for all of the group leaders, add a layer of coaches between the group leaders and the main leader. The main leader can focus on developing the coaches who can then do the same for small group leaders.
Knowledge, experiences, and coaching are essential for a leader to be developed. Knowledge is what leaders must learn/know. Experiences are the opportunities to put knowledge into practice. Coaching is when a guiding leader applies the knowledge and experience with a new leader.
