Listen to the kids! They want child friendly, safe, welcoming streets and a city that invites them in to explore independently and freely. Manchester totally wants to be a child friendly cycling city. Help us @AndyBurnhamGM@DameSarahStorey#visionzero#streersforkids
I find towers that cantilever like this so unnecessary.
Surely, it would make sense just to build taller, keep the tower slimmer, and reduce cost, materials and embodied carbon?

There is also the reluctance of volume house builders to build in quantity and with speed because of their desire not to ‘flood’ the market whilst operating a simplistic construction model. Cash flow and borrowing costs further hampers supply.
One of my early projects at BDP was to convert the derelict Dock Traffic Office to a news gathering station for @GranadaReports It was cutting edge news reporting at the time and gave new life to a wonderful building. Good to see it has now found a new use more than 30 years on.
@PhilGriffinMcr Thinking about this a bit more…..and I think this may actually be Barber’s winning scheme back for Morecambe way back when…..OMI were runners up.
There’s been a few attempts in the past to get this sort of thing off the ground in Morecambe. When we tried 10 years ago, the property values just did not stack up and it got no further. Things have improved since, so hopefully this might see the light of day. Good luck.
@joemccaul Cyclists get a pathetic white line to protect them from cars, trucks and buses. It should be sufficiently safe for your 6 year old kid or your 70 year old granny to use.
Sadly, most UK citizens have no intention of adopting cycling as a plausible means of transport, it’s for those saddos who haven’t got a car. We need sound initiatives that get people on a bike…to realise how much fun it is and that it makes sense as a means of transport.
👉🏻 “Survey of 21,374 residents in 18 UK cities found 56% in favour & only 17% against moving money from road building to active travel & public transport. 58% support more cycle paths along roads, even if it removes space for cars, only 22% are opposed”. https://t.co/p9PRpoHUsI
At least there was an attempt to engage with the street with 4 storeys of brick.
There are so few examples of glass towers hitting the ground in a meaningful way.
The mind boggles that high-rise architecture is still so often reduced to creating an interesting shape and then cladding it in curtain walling

Westminster City Council has unveiled draft new rules that would mean developers must explore the option to retrofit existing buildings before demolishing them
