My take: Readers relate to characters that seem real. They have emotions, they have personalities, they make mistakes. Crying at a loss, cussing in anger, a fist pull in success, all add to your character's relatability to your readers.

Don't use an arbitrary word count. Let the characters tell their story. Don't fluff it to make it longer or chop it because someone else says so. Stories have a beginning, middle and natural end. Readers buy the story, not the word count. #WritingTips
