The faith and sacrifice of the pioneers are not merely part of our history. They are part of our heritage as a covenant people. 

Today we honor those faithful Latter-day Saint pioneers who established homes, communities, and temples in the mountain West—including those who labored for 40 years to build the Salt Lake Temple. Their efforts were motivated by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and trust in His promises. 

As we celebrate Pioneer Day, we express gratitude for all who have helped build the Lord's kingdom, both past and present. Their examples remind us that discipleship requires faith, sacrifice, and steadfastness in keeping sacred covenants.

To the Americans:

I've travelled all over the world. I've familiarized myself with many places, and met many people. And I'm a Canadian, although I’m privileged to reside once again in the States.

And here's something I've noticed, and it’s a key element of America's continuing greatness:

You bloody Americans value success, and you believe in its existence.

This is something that doesn't really happen anywhere else in the world. Even in other free democracies—the United Kingdom; Finland, Sweden, and Norway; Australia, New Zealand and Canada; Germany, France, and the Netherlands (great countries all)—a counterproductive cynicism too often reigns.

Success is equated with exploitation.
Ambition is looked upon with contempt.

This happens sometimes in the United States too—particularly among the miserable progressives, who confuse their resentment, ingratitude and unearned skepticism with wisdom.

But in your great country, by and large, striving is admired and success celebrated.

This means that more people strive and succeed in the US than anywhere else. And it's increasingly obvious. You remain stunningly more innovative and productive than any people anywhere else on the planet.

And so I say, as all should who are fortunate enough to live in the western world, let alone America:

Thank God for the United States.

Thank God for the wisdom of its founders.
Thank God for its faith in the free market and in the natural rights of man.
Happy birthday, you damn Yankees and Southerners.

Long may your admirable country dominate the world.

Long may your freedom and hope provide an example to those suffering everywhere at the hands of their malevolent states.

May your two and a half centuries of unparallelled success be just the beginning.

It was a special privilege for my wife Kristen and me to be in Burley, Idaho today as I officiated in the dedication of the Burley Idaho Temple.

We are living in a glorious season of temple building. This temple is our 212th dedicated temple worldwide. More than 150 other temples are in design or under construction.

Temples are essential to our Heavenly Father’s plan for His children. In these houses of the Lord, we are taught the most important things we can learn and do in mortality.

The scriptures speak of perilous times, when men’s hearts will fail them. They also speak of worthy disciples escaping these things, of their standing in holy places, and not being moved. Surely the times ahead will call for us to remember our temple covenants and to rely on the blessings promised to us.

I rejoice with you in the dedication of this Burley Temple.

The temple is the House of the Lord, a House built for the sacred work of the Lord God of Israel, our Savior and our Redeemer, to prepare us for exaltation in the celestial kingdom of God.

2 parenting shifts that can change your child's future:

1) Talk to your baby as if they understand every word
2) Never "dismiss" your child

My daughter was recently babysitting an 18-month-old boy at our house (cute kid, all-smiles, all the time). I flashed back to when my kids were that age. Picked him up, walked around, narrated everything:

"This is a plant with beautiful, green leaves. The pot is black..."

"and this here is a piece of art. What do YOU see? Yep, a sailboat gliding across the ocean..."

He looked at everything with pure wonder. Absorbed every word.

This matters because its how kids learn. Sponges that soak up vocabulary, tone, and communication skills. If you want eloquent, confident, and curious children...

On "dismissing" kids: I often see folks relegate them to the playroom during gatherings or brush them off when they interrupt.

These moments are teachable opportunities. but only if we let them engage (like you would any other person). So acknowledge them. If they interrupt, let em know “I’ll be with you in one moment”

Greet the guests, shake hands, make introductions. Ask them a question or make a comment to your neighbor to spark conversation. If you have multiple children, give each a turn.

The one brain structure that literally grows when you do things you HATE doing — and shrinks the moment you get comfortable.

Stanford neuroscientist Andrew Huberman dropped what he calls “one of the most important discoveries in the history of neuroscience” in a conversation with David Goggins.

It’s called the anterior mid-cingulate cortex (aMCC).

Recent human studies (not mice) show:
- It’s smaller in people with obesity → grows when they successfully diet
- Super-athletes have an unusually large aMCC
- People who live the longest keep this area big their entire life
- It enlarges every single time you force yourself to do something you genuinely do NOT want to do
- It shrinks almost immediately if you stop or if the same task becomes enjoyable

Huberman: “This isn’t the seat of intelligence or memory. This might actually be the seat of the WILL TO LIVE.”

The rule is brutal but simple:
If you love your ice bath → no growth
If you’re terrified of cold water but get in anyway → aMCC gets bigger
Skip a day or start liking it → it shrinks again tomorrow

Huberman waited years to tell David Goggins about this because Goggins has been unconsciously training his aMCC harder than almost anyone alive.
