To reporters covering the #MauiFire: Please stop characterizing Front Street and Lahaina Town as a “tourist spot”
It was the original Capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
King Kamehameha’s palace is here.
Kānaka Maoli still live here, on their ancestral land from the 1800s.
The scene in Lahaina, Maui this morning is absolutely devastating.
The entire town is being destroyed by an intense wildfire, forcing residents to sheek shelter in the ocean.
Make no mistake, climate change is making scenes like this more frequent.
This is what it looked like earlier on Maui. If you've been to my hometown of Lahaina...I fear it is no longer. I dread what it will look like in the morning. An apocalyptic scene is unfolding due to the fires raging across my island. Please pray for us.
Lahaina Town on Maui is almost totally burnt to the ground. Firefighters are still trying to get the fires under control, and our first responders are in search and rescue mode. If you want to help, please do so here. Thank you. https://t.co/imol6Zr9mI
As a Kānaka Maoli, stemming from seven generations here on Maui. This is heartbreaking to watch. Colonial greed is burning down our home. And it’s US politicians and polluters to blame. #ClimateEmergency
In years gone by, today, the 17th would have been the day we began shooting SVU's 2nd ep of the season. We'd probably have drafts of the next three scripts in various states. Stories for one or two after that. If the strike were to end August 1 (spoiler alert, it won't)... 1/5
If I ran CBS I’d cut a deal with the WGA by Friday, then start up writers rooms on Monday, and save my fall season. Why be dragged under by the streamers’ greed, incompetence, and paralysis? They broke it, CBS shouldn’t have to wait for them to fix it.
Here’s a chant from the Upfront pickets:
Disney, Paramount, Warner, Fox
Watch what happens to your stocks!
We chanted it as execs walked by, trying to seem chill
