Ahh here, i found my World of Warcraft open Beta Screenshots From 2004. I never made it over Level 28 because i was doing too much PvP in Ashenvale. But hey, i made it to Tyrande! Also a Picture of the End of the World, when the Burning Legion appeared everywhere.

On top of this, in the case of GW3 it looks like there are actual gameplay benefits to this limitation. I‘m excited about it.

From recent Guild Wars 3 interviews from Gamescom (e.g. @mightyteapot) it looks like regular open world gameplay might be limited to around 20 players nearby at any given time (outside bigger cities etc). Is this MMO-lite?

I don‘t think so. I mostly play WoW retail these days and except for world bosses and special events I‘m not sure I ever see more than 20 players around me at any given time, due to sharding.
