Merc stayed out based on an assumption that the sporting regs would be followed and gambled on no more racing laps. If the regs had been followed they bet on the right horse. Mask changed the rules

@Amtath @BradleyPhilpot Then they were told lapped cars would not be allowed to pass which also made their decision to retain track position correct. Then 5 cars were let past. You can't make strategy calls with that level of randomness.

That would have meant an extra lap under the safety car meaning their choice to retain track position was actually correct if procedures had been followed.

@RWaanidee @wearetherace The greater point is, in no other sport can you change the rules of the game while the game is being played. It's a regulatory issue. Max can have the title but this must be clarified. Strategists work off a rule book.
