"The Power of Love" was written for Back to the Future (1985) after Robert Zemeckis, Steven Spielberg and Bob Gale approached Huey Lewis for an original song for the film. Lewis initially resisted the idea of writing a track called “Back to the Future,” so the filmmakers instead told him he could simply give them his next new song, which turned out to be “The Power of Love.” He also made a cameo in the film as the audition judge who tells Marty McFly’s band, The Pinheads, that they’re “just too darn loud.”
The song became the biggest hit of Huey Lewis and the News’ career, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
