Over time, individuals can both learn to redeploy various interpersonal capacities online, as well as coming to learn new ways “to walk and talk together” ✨
We suggest this is a helpful lens when investigating the limits and possibilities for online social interactions, as it gives a useful framework for thinking about how a user’s skill, history, & familiarity with the technology in question shapes their online social possibilties
Drawing on developmental psychology we show how intersubjective capabilities build upon and are interrelated to one another, and that more sophisticated styles of intersubjectivity only emerge once earlier stages are in place
@david_ekdahl & I have a new paper out called “Learning to walk and talk (again): what developmental psychology can teach us about online intersubjectivity”!
Thanks to Katharina Anna Sodoma, @LizardVentham, & Christiana Werner for inviting us to the SI ☺️
