“To the membership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Constitution of the United States is as a tree of liberty under whose cooling branches one might find a haven from the scorching sun of turmoil and oppression and have his rights protected according to just and holy principles. To them, the Constitution was established by the hands of wise men whom God raised up for this very purpose, and they devoutly believe that if it should be in danger of being overthrown, their lives, if need be, are to be offered in defense of its principles.”
- Harold B. Lee, True Patriotism—An Expression of Faith,” published in the Church News on July 12, 1941
3. And it came to pass that he was obedient unto the word of the Lord, wherefore he did as the Lord commanded him.
4. And it came to pass that he departed into the wilderness. And he left his house, and the land of his inheritance, and his gold, and his silver, and his precious things, and took nothing with him, save it were his family, and provisions, and tents, and departed into the wilderness.

I love this scripture for a couple of reasons: it's easy to remember (1,2,3,4) and because it reminds me that sometimes we may have to leave what we think are comforts in order to follow God and Jesus Christ. We may be called to leave comfortable habits, thoughts, routines, etc., and journey into a private wilderness of new things. However, the reward in that wilderness is always worth it.
I think these two quotes back to back are really important.
President Nelson said, “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost.”
President Oaks said, “One of the many reasons you will need the constant influence of the Holy Ghost is that you live in a season where the adversary has become so effective at disguising truth that if you don’t have the Holy Ghost, you will be deceived.”
One prophet said it won’t be possible to survive and another said you will be deceived without the Holy Ghost.
What are you doing today to invite the Holy Ghost into your life?
Today in studying the life of Saul I came to a fantastic talk given by Elder Uchtdorf called A Matter of a Few Degrees. He gave it in April 2008.
He describes that choices, even though small, can lead to huge changes in direction later. Think of a plane being off just one degree how far off course it will be over the duration of the flight.
Our spirituality can be the same way. A small choice now could set us off on a course that is difficult to come back from.
It gave me a lot to think about in how I spend my time, how I act, how I study, etc.
"Small errors and minor drifts away from the doctrine of the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring sorrowful consequences into our lives. It is therefore of critical importance that we become self-disciplined enough to make early and decisive corrections to get back on the right track and not wait or hope that errors will somehow correct themselves."

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking date for the Huntsville Alabama Temple.
“God desires all of us to strive for His highest possible blessings by keeping His highest commandments, covenants, and ordinances, all of which culminate in His holy temples being built throughout the world,” President Dallin H. Oaks said in a recent general conference.
