Sitting on a Swedish jetty reading about lost places in Britain and the excellent writing by @drmatthewgreen is making me feel a little homesick for somewhere that doesn't exist any more. Great book by @faberbooks
I've just finished #FiveDecembers by @JamesKestrel from @HardCaseCrime and it's phenomenal. There are some books, that after you have stayed up late to finish them (sadly, for me, 9.30pm is late!) you know they have written themselves into you and will always be there. Amazing!
Sorting through some stuff and I found this story about the evening 20 years ago when I first moved to Sweden and the vicar came to tea. https://t.co/B5EbKko1hV
“With Accor, you are guaranteed to have a pleasant and comfortable stay” promises the @All / @Accor website.
Let’s talk about that...
On the way to the Marseille Europa League game, myself and two friends had reserved *AND PAID IN FULL* for hotel rooms, independently, directly on the @All website. We’d also checked in online on the @All website, notifying them of our expected time of arrival.
When we arrived at the hotel, despite our bookings and advanced payments, we were told there were no rooms available. And that was it.
It was late in the evening and no assistance was offered to help us find another hotel.
In the end we paid a substantial amount on a taxi, trawling around various hotels to find a vacant room. We found one around 2am. Literally one. Instead of us having a room each for the night, we had one to share. My two friends got cosy in a double bed whilst I slept in a small child-sized bunk above.
We put it down to experience though, as surely @All would refund us for the rooms we booked, and were unable to use, at the very least. Hopefully, they’d also help us with the money we had to spend to find somewhere else to sleep for the night.
No they won’t. Accor are refusing to refund us for rooms booked on their very own website that we were unable to use as they’d given them to other people.
Let’s repeat that: We booked and paid for hotel rooms with Accor. They gave those rooms to other people. They won’t refund us.
Simply, the most appalling customer service it has been my misfortune to experience.
You have a choice as to which hotels you use. I suggest you think long and hard about using @All.
Nice to read the first pages of 3rd placed EBONIE WOODHEAD IS NOT A WITCH at the #stockholmwritersfestival. It was great to hear winner @BethLucy read from SCOUSE GRAFFITI too and to be transported a little to Liverpool. Thanks to @StockholmWriter @catpett for a fun day.

Nice news for a Monday - now I am on the shortlist for the Stockholm Writer's Festival First Five Pages Prize with my middle-grade fiction story Ebonie Woodhead is NOT a Witch. And she really isn't.
Thanks @StockholmWriter#SWF23#MGLit
