Shameful negligence and bureaucratic cruelty exposed!
Second Officer Nishanth Uirthanathan (35, Tamil Nadu) died onboard MT Celestial on 11 June at Duqm Port, Oman — abandoned by ship management and administrators who failed to provide timely medical evacuation despite desperate pleas.
His body was left to decompose onboard for days without a freezer. Crew forced to use cold water bottles in a desperate, humiliating attempt to slow the rot. Only after the horror went viral did authorities finally move the remains to Duqm for postmortem.
Now, the grieving family — already shattered and demanding answers — is being stonewalled. They await the full postmortem report, yet face a heartless ultimatum from the Embassy: repatriate the mortal remains before the 25th, or Oman will simply dispose of them.
Is this “administration” or outright abandonment of an Indian seafarer’s family?
Administrators failed him in life. They are failing his dignity in death. Enough! Demand full investigation into the medical negligence, accountability for the company, and respectful repatriation — no more excuses or threats.
Seafarers are not disposable!

An unforgettable tragedy marked by shocking hypocrisy: all SOS alerts were ignored, and timely medical support was denied, leading to the death of this young officer.
Despite three days of bureaucracy, his body remains onboard. We demand immediate repatriation to his family in Tamil Nadu.

Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu | Indian seafarer Nishanth Uirthanathan's father says, "My son has been working on the ship for the past 10 months. The shipping company did not inform us about his death. Instead, they told us that my son was suffering from a health issue and then switched off his phone. We received no communication from the company thereafter, nor did anyone from the ship contact us. More than 3 days have passed since my son's death, yet no proper action has been taken. When my son's condition became critical, those on board reportedly requested helicopter assistance for medical evacuation. However, there was no response from the company's office. Since the vessel on which my son was working had reportedly been laid up, no adequate medical assistance was provided to him. Even after informing us of his death, the company has allegedly failed to properly preserve my son's body in a refrigerated facility. We request that the authorities immediately bring back his mortal remains and conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. My son leaves behind two young daughters. We do not know what the future holds. Our family is in deep distress."
