Minor dev update from last week for Stampede prop: The Daily loss, Max drawdown and Profit target cards on your account page now update live as your equity moves. Before, they only changed when you reloaded the page.
Your trading day at Stampede is the UTC day, not the day where you live.
In New York the daily loss limit resets at 8pm (7pm once the clocks go back on 1 November). In Sydney it's 11am.
Ten losing trades in a row happens to most traders at some point, even with a strategy that works.
On a $100K Classic account, risk 1% of your balance a trade and ten straight losers over a few days cost about $9,560. That leaves you just above the $90K max loss floor. At 2% a trade you'd be out by the sixth.
We run two kinds of loss floor.
On the challenge it's static: set on day one, it stays put. On Instant, which isn't on sale yet, it trails your end-of-day balance by 6%, and it only moves at the daily close.
That's what I like about prop. On a $10K Sprint account the most a held loser can cost you is the $129 fee, not your whole stack.
And a floor you can't move pushes you to decide where you're wrong before you get in.
Lose $3K on a Monday on a $100K Classic account and Tuesday starts at $97K. Tuesday's daily floor is 5% below that: $92,150.
The max loss floor is still $90K, so on Tuesday the daily floor is the one that stops you first.
On a prop account a held loser has a hard limit. Our loss limits are checked on equity, so an open trade counts while it's still open.
On a $10K Sprint account the max loss floor is $9,400. If equity touches it with the trade still open, the account is closed.
@g4trades_@Stampede_prop They'll also make 10% or 20% or whatever the deal is. However a dodgy third world prop firm will only B book everything, and find ways to arbitrarily cut you off if you are costing them money.
@g4trades_ I run @Stampede_prop and the answer is yes if the prop firm is legitimate. A prop firm that is A booking you if you are a decent trader and consistent, will be happy to collect the commission on the spread of what you're putting through and will have Liquidity Provider contracts.
On the challenge, your max loss floor is set the day you start and it stays there until you pass.
$100K Classic: the floor is $90K. Make $8K and it's still $90K. Lose $5K and it's still $90K.
I've watched traders with million-dollar accounts get wiped out by holding losing trades. Some of them more than once. They'd fund the account again and trade it exactly the same way.
A trader breached at 00:00:17 last week. The daily reset is applied in the seconds after midnight, and it had not reached their account yet.
Account breached. Felt harsh. So we restarted their account, and adjusted our rules to warn users it can take up until 5 minutes past midnight to reset. In realty it's probably more like up to a minute, but we wanted users to have a fair buffer to trade accordingly. First time that's happened, live and learn!
The trouble with holding a loser is that it usually works. Price comes back, you get out flat, and your brain files it under "holding works".
Then one day it doesn't come back, and it takes the whole account.
Drew got funded after several attempts. On 16 Oct he asked for the first payout from his $5K Sprint Turbo account, and 28 minutes later we paid him $205.91.
Well done, Drew.
