Como judío cargo sobre mi pecho la estrella de David. Tu, la Cruz de Jesús. En el fondo son dos castigos. En las formas es que está la diferencia:
A mi David me enseñó a no rendirme y luchar. Jesús te enseño a perdonar, rendirte, sentirte culpable y dejarte crucificar.

The “Marcus Brody cut” in Indiana Jones is a masterclass in comedic editing. It works flawlessly because Spielberg isn’t just subverting the scene, he's weaponising our own knowledge of his filmmaking style against us.
Happy heavenly birthday, Denholm Elliott

Clint Eastwood explains why he chose "Play Misty for Me" (1971) as his directorial debut:
"Eastwood: It was the subject. I had lived through a similar experience, though it was less dramatic. The character played by Jessica Walter, which was suggested to Jo Heims by an acquaintance of hers, was also familiar to me. It’s someone who fantasizes a love relationship. For my character, the disc jockey, it’s a one-night stand, but for her it’s a devouring passion. This misunderstanding interested me: exactly when do you become involved in a love affair? To what extent are we responsible for the relationship we establish?
Interviewer: Weren’t the people you were talking to at Universal surprised that you chose a story in which the dominant character is a woman?
Eastwood: Yeah, sure. They kept asking me, “Why are you so eager to make a picture where the woman has the best part?” Their second argument was that the situation wouldn’t be believable: “How could a big strong guy like you be threatened physically by a weak young woman?” I thought, on the contrary, that the obsessive dimension of the relationship would only make the dynamic between the two more interesting and would actually work out better. Besides, it is a type of behavior that you can observe in either sex. I’ve known men who were as possessive as women about the object of their passion."

P.S: Happy 96th birthday, Clint Eastwood!
The production of Yankee Doodle Dandy in 1942 presented director Michael Curtiz and his crew with a sequence that immediately alarmed studio safety personnel — a bravura staircase descent in which James Cagney would improvise an elaborate, physically demanding dance routine down a grand theatrical flight of steps. Studio officials and choreographers warned that the stunt carried serious risk of injury, urging that it either be modified or abandoned entirely, as a fall at that velocity could sideline the film's irreplaceable lead. Cagney, a former vaudeville performer whose entire body functioned as a precision instrument honed over decades of professional stagecraft, dismissed their concerns and proceeded to execute the sequence in a single uninterrupted take. The resulting performance became one of the most celebrated moments in Hollywood musical history, capturing an authenticity and kinetic spontaneity that no carefully rehearsed repetition could have manufactured. Cagney's portrayal of George M. Cohan earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor, and that staircase descent — born from defiance of institutional caution — stood as the visceral centerpiece of a performance that defined his legacy beyond the gangster roles for which he had previously been typecast.

In Alien, Sigourney Weaver said she was criticized for this scene.
“People have said, ‘Aw, how could you demean yourself by doing this?’ And I say, ‘Are you kidding? After five days of blood and guts, sweat and urine, do you think Ripley wouldn’t take off her clothes?’
What the duck were they thinking?
The near “love scene” between Lea Thompson (65 today) and Howard the Duck is played almost completely straight. It confused the hell out of younger audiences, and still ranks as one of the most bizarre moments in cinema history.
James Stewart & Anthony Mann wanted "Winchester '73" (1950) to be authentic. Well over the fear that had seized Stewart in Indiana after discharging the bullet that almost hit friend Hall Blair, he practiced target shooting for long hours with Herb Parsons, an expert from the Winchester company. Although Parsons did the trick shooting in the movie, Mann considered that James Stewart's time spent on practicing was well spent since it made the movie look real. He said,
"James Stewart didn’t seem to realize what a great quality he had in westerns, not at first anyway, But it was obvious from my side of the camera. He was magnificent walking down a street with a Winchester rifle cradled in his arm. And he was great too actually firing the gun. He studied hard at it. His knuckles were raw with practicing. It was those sorts of things that helped make the film look so authentic, gave it its sense of reality."
"He was always anxious, always skillful, always cooperative, You could see he wanted to be great, and that was not exactly true of some of the other gentlemen I’d worked with."
("James Stewart: A Biography", Donald Dewey, 1996)
P.S: On this day, 76 years ago "Winchester '73" (1950) premiered in New Haven, Connecticut, USA.
