A painful goodbye provided the story behind one of Arctic Monkeys’ most emotional early tracks. Alex Turner later confirmed that “Do Me a Favour” drew from personal experience, describing the end of a relationship and his regret over how he had treated the other person. The music mirrors that tension, beginning relatively restrained before erupting into a furious guitar-heavy finale. It came from the band’s 2007 second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare. Two years later, Arctic Monkeys headlined Reading Festival while promoting the darker Humbug, but “Do Me a Favour” remained a powerful link to the raw heartbreak of the previous record.
