Learn PowerShell Scripting in a Month of Lunches

Start with these to learn how to write advanced functions and build modules, then supplement with articles and YouTube videos as needed.
Investing the time to learn PowerShell in 2019 was one of the best decisions I ever made. Itโs still returning dividends 4 years later. Thank you @ManningBooks @concentrateddon @JeffHicks for the Month of Lunches books. ๐๐๐ป
Today I wrote functions to interact with my teamsโ web APIs to manipulate objects in a database in just a few hours. Prior to learning PowerShell, it would have taken me a day or more to manually click the changes to existence in the web UI.
Looking for Podcast Sponsors for @EngAdvicePod.
DM me if you're interested.
This week, @ramannoodlez, @keyurhindocha, @VicVijayakumar, @LBacaj and I started to record the second season of our podcast and we are looking for sponsors to help us to take it to the next level.
The last 19 months have been filled with tremendous career and personal growth for me. I went from landing my dream job in May 2021 to receiving a promotion in December 2022. To say Iโm thankful would be an understatement.
@joshduffney Without knowing any additional context, Iโd say switching from a to do list to a Kanban board is the biggest advice that helped me.
Switching from the binary Done/Not Done in a list, to a visual L-to-R board of Backlog/To Do/Doing/Done, was revolutionary for me.
Learned how to use ForEach/TestCases in Pester v5 today. Just make sure you donโt use <input> as a variable name or else it will throw an error and the tests will fail.

@joshduffney Thanks, Josh! It feels like yesterday I was listening to your conversation with Don Jones on the Perspectives In Tech podcast and dreaming of having similar career success. I think Iโm on the right track! ๐
@MikeKanakos@BillKindle@joshduffney Iโm also torn with the proprietary DB for my personal OneNote, but Iโm sticking with it for now. I keep my notes very basic so I could convert them to Markdown with minimal effort later if needed.
Ultimately, anything is better than a physical notebook for me.
@BillKindle@MikeKanakos@joshduffney The top reason is itโs included in Office and 99% of orgs already have it. Itโs a hassle to get 3rd party software approved in most orgs Iโve worked.
Markdown is also great! I use a GitHub repo for my public knowledgebase.
Letโs say you need to download all the devices in your tenant and you have over 1 million devices.
At first you try running this command and you increase the page size to 999 instead of the default 100 to make it go faster.
It runs for a long time but errors out midway โน๏ธ

@concentrateddon You got this! I wish I had heard your career journey when I was in high school. Students need to hear career success stories that didnโt require college degrees. The idea of not attending college was unfathomable where I came from.
