Today we lost a brother. Our hearts and love go out to Jill Lesh, Brian and Grahame. Phil Lesh was irreplaceable. In one note from the Phil Zone, you could hear and feel the world being born. His bass flowed like a river would flow. It went where the muse took it. He was an explorer of inner and outer space who just happened to play bass. He was a circumnavigator of formerly unknown musical worlds. And more.

We can count on the fingers of one hand the people we can say had as profound an influence on our development - in every sense. And there have been even less people who did so continuously over the decades and will continue to for as long as we live. What a gift he was for us. We won’t say he will be missed, as in any given moment, nothing we do will be without the lessons he taught us - and the lessons that are yet to come, as the conversations will go on.

Phil loved the Dead Heads and always kept them in his heart and mind. The thing is… Phil was so much more than a virtuoso bass player, a composer, a family man, a cultural icon...

There will be a lot of tributes, and they will all say important things. But for us, we’ve spent a lifetime making music with Phil Lesh and the music has a way of saying it all. So listen to the Grateful Dead and, in that way, we’ll all take a little bit of Phil with us, forever.

For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon, long ago….

Wishing a happy birthday to the ace, @BobWeir🌹The bay area native was raised in Atherton, CA and later attended Fountain Valley School where he’d meet his first writing partner, John Perry Barlow. At around 16 years old, he would attend Pacific High School where he would join his first band, The Uncalled Four, who would perform just one show at The Tangent in Palo Alto. This would be the same night he would come across Jerry Garcia for the first time. Later on New Years Eve in 1963, he would run into Jerry again at Dana Morgan’s Music Shop in Palo Alto, and that would serve as the catalyst for a chain of events all leading up to the rise of the Grateful Dead. While there are so many Bobby moments to celebrate from his years in the band, share yours below to join in the celebration of his birthday today.

There will never be another like Pete Rose! He battled his entire life, making it to the Big Leagues on determination and grit. He wanted to win every game and get 3 , no make that 4…no, 5 hits everyday. He won batting title because he had the desire and the goal. He wanted Ty Cobb’s record.

Will we ever see this again? 13 seasons of 190+ hits. 3,562 games played. 5,929 times on base. Rookie of the Year, All Star, Gold Glover, Silver Slugger, MVP and World Series Champion. A local kid from Cincinnati who became a King.

We were teammates, business partners and more importantly, in spite of what everyone thought, we were friends. I will miss him dearly.

Hey yall!! Quick update..

I arrived in Buena vista Thursday night ready to rock out at renewal with my band and all my friends .. but knowing in the back of my mind that there’s a chance I might have to get back to Michigan at a moments notice if my wife went into labor.. we were really hoping that baby boy would wait till Sunday morning at least but he had plans of his own. Friday morning I got to the festival site and did a soundcheck and a quick Q&A set about the album.. I was hanging out backstage getting ready to rehearse for our set when my wife called and told me her water broke. I immediately hopped on a jet (thank you ringo star for lending me your ride) and headed back. I was mortified to leave the fans hanging and to leave the responsibility of the gig to my band and friends who stepped up and kicked ass in my absence. ( I owe you all a cold beer! ) but I was so excited to get back to my wife because she needed me…

I got to Michigan Friday night around midnight and we have been in labor ever since.. we labored all day yesterday and we’re still in the race. Ally is doing amazing! she is so strong. I’ve never witnessed anything like it. There is an unbelievable amount of strength and courage in that woman. We are still here and she is doing great work. Baby and mother are both healthy. We are hoping to meet our boy today! I’ll let you all know when he’s here. But for now please just keep sending Ally all of your thoughts of love and strength.

I cannot wait to meet him ❤️

Regarding renewal. I WILL find a way to make it up to you.. just give me a sec to be with my family. I’ll figure out a way to make it up to you I promise!

And for those wondering .. as long as all goes well here in the next day or 2, pine knob is definitely a GO!!
