Today I want to share the backstory:
One week in 2019, I spoke with ~30 ppl seeking help for OCD. Their journeys were HEARTBREAKING.
Here’s how their self-advocacy impacted me and made it easier to find help for OCD in Australia...

Grateful that #Ocdbounce was invited to share our program for improving treatment access for young people with OCD with MPs and senators at Parliament House in Canberra at the youth mental health showcase. #youthmentalhealth
Hoping @AcademicChatter or #psychology research community can lend expertise here. Perhaps linked with recent #mturk billing changes but surely they can’t cut and run with the prepaid funds?
Are other researchers having this issue with mTurk? A few months ago @amazonmturk suspended our account "due to inactivity". No warning. We had pre-loaded lab $ for studies. After a month of daily emails: No access, no refund. How to escalate? Advice or RT would help! @AWSSupport

If you’re read this far and you’re wondering why OCD is an issue, why it needs specific treatment, or why MORE needs to be done... (the directory is NOT enough), this piece in the @TheConversation is worth a read.

One participant said:
“I feel hopeful of finding help (and wish this existed sooner)”
So do I.
Thank you to those brave people who took the time to share their journeys with me in 2019 🙏🏻
You’ll probably never realise the impact of your self-advocacy, but it was worth it.
@jessicargrisham@GordyPopovic A few puzzles to solve: the control task was accidentally anxiolytic (oops)! We can improve the way we measured beliefs. Diagnosis not confirmed = not clinical sample (but high in OCD traits). Impact on symptoms not tested (yet). More studies in the works. 🤞
📊🔔So pleased to share this experimental study! We tested whether we could “re-script” OCD-related mental imagery of the future using audio-guided exercises - and compared this to brief imaginal exposure & control tasks. @jessicargrisham@GordyPopovic

@jessicargrisham@GordyPopovic After brief imagery re-scripting, self-related beliefs and emotions improved, and urge to neutralise the imagery reduced. The imaginal exposure task didn’t perform so well, but this might just be because it was so short.
🔔PUBLICATION ALERT!🔔
@anxietydoc1 and I found that object attachment can be secure or insecure, much like interpersonal attachment style! So we developed the Object Attachment Security Measure (OASM).

Our latest publication calls for strengthened collaboration and advocacy between researchers, clinicians, consumers and their carers to improve assessment, treatment and research of #ocd. Read it #openaccess@RANZCP_ANZJP:
