We just announced a bunch of new AI experiences that will live across our apps and devices - the new Meta AI assistant, 28 new AI characters to chat with, image and sticker generation, a platform for building your own AIs, and a lot more. I asked our new image generation model, Emu, to get me an image of the team hard at work on the launch.
@Carnage4Life Drivers have acq cost and are ~90% of the variable cost each ride. Driver retention is fickle. And Lyft/Uber actually do provide the car much of the time.
I agree that self driving is far from a panacea, but cost efficiencies on supply remain the primary path to profitability.
@crabbylions The monotony makes it impossible to get distracted so I’m left thinking about the only thing I don’t want to think about while running…running. Definitely believe in the name “dreadmill.”
Thoughts as a new dad: If a litmus test for American Millennials (‘80-‘95) vs. Millennials (‘96-‘12) is, “Do you remember 9/11?”
The equivalent for Gen Alpha (‘12-present) might be, “Do you remember life before using AI?”
These phenomena will coalesce.
The labor market will force skill & job realignment, and further accelerate a space that’s already moving faster than anyone can keep up with.
At risk of repeating what everyone is saying: The next 5 years are going be wild.
Conflicting sentiment across tech right now.
On the one hand, the toughest job market in 20 years anchored by layoffs and contraction, exacerbated by interest rate & banking uncertainty.
OTOH, curiosity, excitement, and ambition driven by AI’s acceleration.
1. Dunks like these are insensitively timed.
2. I hope this moment leads many to reconsider certain positions, including how our industries are regulated.
3. Most of Silicon Valley — even many VCs — are quite progressive! Ignore the loud voices implying otherwise.
The SVB response has been the most acute example yet of how universally unpopular & bad at politics / PR Silicon Valley is.
The left is relishing in the hypocrisy of asks for govt to “bailout” depositors. The right is laughing at SVB’s “wokeness.”
Everyone wants to let it burn.
Between SVB’s initial bungling of the comms around their equity raise, the name *Silicon Valley* Bank, and a few loud & unlikable spokespeople, this has been one disastrous lesson in “messaging matters.”
@petergyang Pre-read + and discuss live has become the exclusive format for product reviews with senior execs at Meta. So much more effective than 25 min preso + 5 min Q&A.
@Carnage4Life Context can / does matter to advertisers (tho second to the target audience). There may not be many tweets about cars, but car companies may e.g. want to advertise against sports tweets. (See also: Brand safety concern to avoid adjacency to certain topics)
