The tx fees spammers pay are very low for getting their files stored forever on someone else's computer. They're essentially free-riding on a $2T network built and secured for payments.

And v30 was just released. This gets worse.

And some are still wondering why a soft fork is now on the table.

Bcash and BSV were altcoins with airdrops, NOT hardforks.

Softforks and hardforks don't result in multiple tokens.

Hardforks do, however, require EVERYONE to consent and upgrade, otherwise (even with inaction) the attempt fails and turns into an altcoin-with-airdrop.

Softforks don't chain split. They succeed unless the community actively opposes them. To reject it, the opposition needs to counter-fork and split the chain. Inaction isn't rejection - people who don't upgrade to one or the other are simply insecure and can't confirm transactions.

A counter-fork to reject BIP 444 would mean explicitly protecting and enforcing the distribution of child porn. I think it's unlikely many people would do something that crazy, so IMO BIP 444 has a very strong probability of a quick success despite the initial chaos.

TL;DR - The Principles of Individual Liberty do not grant anyone ‘liberty’ to ruin shared resources. Especially scarce resources.

I am a liberty maximalist. I promote the self-determination of individuals.

If my neighbor and I own land adjacent to each other, and we have a common water table underground which feeds our respective water wells; my promotion of individual liberty and self-determination does not give me justification to contaminate his well by knowingly and willfully pushing garbage down into the water table, resulting in the contamination of his water well.

My staunch advocacy of individual liberty does not grant me the right to negate his equal access to a pure, shared / scarce resource. It is doubtful that many people who claim to champion the principles of liberty would reject this.

Similarly, if Bitcoin is a shared and scarce resource, a decentralized network underpinned by principles of liberty (and permissionlessness), my advocacy for individual self-determination does not justify actions that contaminate or degrade it for others. For instance, knowingly and willfully flooding the blockchain with spam, inscriptions, or any other non-monetary data in the name of “being permissionless” negates others’ access to an efficient, pure monetary system, much like polluting a common water table. True liberty respects the boundaries where one’s actions infringe on the equal and unmolested use of the network of fellow participants in this voluntary ecosystem.

Adherence to the non-aggression principle is necessarily a reciprocal concept.
