Following on from winning the 2025 All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship, the Galway Camogie team are running a Mega Raffle to raise funds for their well-deserved team holiday.
Unlike their male counterparts, who receive financial support towards a holiday fund, the team
“Galway’s Relentless Edge: How Effort delivers in the All-Ireland Camogie Final”
Lead Stat was Effort.
In a game of fine margins, Galway’s biggest weapon wasn’t a free-taker, a forward’s finish, or a tactical masterstroke, it was pure work rate.
Effort Stat (Tackles, Hooks & Blocks):
•Galway: 84
•Cork: 73
That 11-action difference equates to one extra defensive pressure every 3 minutes, constantly disrupting Cork’s rhythm.
2-3 Player Press. Galway’s Pressure Game
The quality of Galway’s work was as telling as the quantity:
•Galway: 48% of their tackles involved 2–3 players swarming the ball carrier.
•Cork: 33%
That collective press forced turnovers, slowed Cork’s attack, and fed Galway’s extra 7 shots.
Shot Volume & Accuracy
•Total shots: Galway 27 – Cork 20
•Scoring rate: Galway 55% vs Cork 70%
One to note: Galway’s extra shots came directly from turnovers won (45 vs 34) and repeat pressure.
Puckout Battle
•Own puckouts won: Cork 90% vs Galway 47%
•Cork dominated their restarts, but Galway’s press flipped enough possession to neutralise the PO advantage.
Analyst’s Note:
Galway’s win was based on workrate.
The 84 effort actions and 67% collective press rate created chaos for Cork, fed the Galway shot count, and allowed the calmest finisher on the field, Carrie Dolan, to close the deal.
🕯️Dermot Flaherty, R.I.P. 🕯️
It is with profound sadness that we learnt of the death of Dermot Flaherty, R.I.P.
Dermot was a devoted and proud Gort GAA Clubman, serving his club with distinction in many roles over the years. At the time of his passing he was serving as Gort GAA Delegate on the Galway GAA County Committee.
A passionate and talented camera man, he was well known around the county and further afield, providing video coverage of many GAA and Camogie games; capturing the winning memories and painful heartbreaks at many great sporting occasions.
He played a pivotal role with Galway GAA, live streaming our Club Championship games in recent years together with his Streamsport colleagues.
He continued to support, encourage and offer his expert advice to the streaming team while bravely battling his illness.
We will remember Dermot for his kindness, unwavering spirit and the sense of fun he brought to all. Dermot will be greatly missed by his beloved family, Gort GAA, Galway GAA and the wider sporting community.
We extend our sympathy to his wife Anne Marie, children Eoin and Éabha, the extended Flaherty family, relatives, friends, the Gort GAA community and all who mourn his passing at this sad time.
Rest in Peace Dermot.
