Research Fellow in Computational Biophysics, including agent-based modelling of biofilms (including oral), the viscoelasticity of fibre networks and others.
Well done to @KalilaCook for presenting her work on Modelling Network Formation in Protein Hydrogels by Cluster Aggregation Kinetics at the @SOFI_CDT Showcase.
Happy to get this one in @PhysRevLett: A numerical study of the viscoelasticity of spring networks that are both isostatic (marginally rigid) and fractal.

Geometric, nonlinear rigidity in #SoftMatter: A floppy, random spring network develops a finite shear modulus μ when length-preserving (non-affine) bond rotations can no longer accommodate an imposed strain γ and load-bearing paths (states of self-stress, SSS) are 'pulled taut'.
20 funded PhD places in the Soft Matter and Functional Interfaces (SOFI) are available with places in Leeds, Durham and Edinburgh. Application deadline Nov. 28th; please see for info:

So happy to be at an institution that values and supports public engagement. The annual Be Curious festival celebrates research from all across the Uni & provides opportunities to explore the creativity & innovation of research. #BeCurious21
Honoured to have won best Oral presentation along with @BTRosier at the European Oral Microbiology Workshop. Thanks for a lovely few days, was great to hear everyone’s work! 🥳 #EOMW2021
Great PhD studentship opportunity: https://t.co/fCc9qZUh9A Deadline on the 29th April 2021. Stipend will be topped up by GSK to £18,285 per year, for up to 4 years. Please apply!
We are exploring the networks that form in cross-linked protein hydrogels and the 'space' around the network.
In the image from @BenTriesToTweet below the aqua coloured spheres illustrate the pores surrounding the protein network.

I would wish everyone a Merry Christmas, but given the situation (in Europe at least), here's a picture of a bacterial biofilm coloured to look a bit like a snowy forest instead ...
It's blog post 12 in our #12daysofHPC!🎄
Today we've got a blog from @DavidHead100 on using the HPC to study bacterial biofilms!

It's paper time again!
How far can we get modelling protein networks as pseudo-colloidal systems? Hopefully a bit further if we include explicit binding sites on the protein surface!
