National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) has launched Volume 4, Issue 1 of the National Security: A Journal of National Defence University-Kenya, marking a significant milestone in advancing scholarly and policy discussions on emerging security challenges in Kenya and beyond.
A region united in intent, expertise and approach stands a better chance of overcoming any challenges - security or otherwise - faced either individually or collectively by the member states.
It is on this premise that the 14th East African Community (EAC) Armed Forces Command Post Exercise, Ushirikiano Imara 2026, has kicked off in Nairobi, bringing together military, police, and civilian personnel from across the eight countries.

DIRECTOR DCI CONDUCTS SECURITY ASSESSMENT IN MARSABIT COUNTY
Today, Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations, visited North Horr Police Station in Marsabit County as part of a security assessment tour of the county.
Upon arrival, the Director was received by North Horr Sub-County Police Commander Mr. Samuel Kiplong, alongside other officers from various units.
During the visit, Mr. Amin assessed security and delivered an engaging lecture to officers, highlighting the importance of professionalism, discipline, and dedication to duty.
The Director also conveyed New Year greetings from the Inspector General of the National Police Service, encouraging officers to stay committed to serving the public responsibly while maintaining the image of the National Police Service at all times.
Mr. Amin was accompanied by Mr. Ibrahim Jillo, AIG, the Director of the National Central Bureau (NCB) at DCI, and Mr. Adan Guyo, AIG, the Officer Commanding Capital Markets at DCI’s Investigations Bureau.
Also present were North Horr Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Mr. Job Wafula and Sub-County Administration Police Commander Mr. Paul Kathenya, among other officers.
The visit underscores the National Police Service’s commitment to strengthening security and ensuring that citizens can celebrate the festive season in peace.

🚨 BREAKING: The President of the Republic of Somaliland hosted 🇺🇸U.S. Africa Command General Dagvin Anderson and U.S. Deputy Ambassador Justin Davis in Hargeisa for high-level talks on Horn of Africa and Red Sea security. 𝐀 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝟐𝟓𝟎 𝐂𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 officially passed out into service, ready to shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding Kenya’s wildlife, protected areas, and the livelihoods of neighbouring communities.
The ceremonial parade was graced by 𝐇.𝐄. 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 @_KithureKindiki , whose presence reinforced the critical role of disciplined, well-trained officers in strengthening wildlife conservation and national security.

Chief Guest 𝐇.𝐄. 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 @_KithureKindiki graced the graduation of 𝟏𝟒𝟕 𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐬; young men and women who, after nine months of rigorous paramilitary training, now join the ranks of Kenya’s conservation officers - drawn from across the country and ready to serve with courage, discipline, and honour.
The parade marked a milestone in the transformation of KWS, reflecting strengthened security, expanded ranger forces, community-centred conservation, and science-led reforms.
𝐂𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 Hon. @rebecca_miano highlighted the officers’ role in tackling human-wildlife conflict and wildlife crime, while 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. @ErustusKanga noted the deliberate investment in building a professional, disciplined, and future-ready Service.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐭 of the KWS Law Enforcement Academy, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐎𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐢 affirmed the officers’ readiness, stating that after months of rigorous paramilitary and leadership training, they are fully prepared to take up their responsibilities in the conservation and protection of Kenya’s wildlife.
As they step into duty, these officers embody the future of conservation in Kenya - people-centred, accountable, and rooted in coexistence and sustainability.
