📣 Aeon R Mission Duty Cycle complete!!! Last night @NASAStennis#AeonR burned in a flight-like configuration for 143 seconds at 70% power – marking a record-breaking pace for engine development and a very speedy 48-hour turnaround from Aeon R's first ever hot fires to successfully completing a full flight duration burn.
< 2 days Aeon Rs first hot fires ➡️ Full MDC
< 3 months ➡️ Powerpack install, testing, conversion to full engine, hot fires
< 1 year empty land ➡️ dual-bay vertical engine test stand
≤ 2 years ➡️ 1,000+ Aeon R component level tests
Fired up our first Aeon R engine hot fires this week. Sound on.
🎯 10 seconds of fire.
✔️ Validated component harmony during start up, at target power (70%), and shutdown.
🏅️ Strong start to test campaign. Initial hardware inspections look healthy.
Longer duration. More power. More blue fire.
📍@NASAStennis R Complex, new dual-bay vertical engine test stand
@SciGuySpace I remember there was a whole environmental assessment for Electron in NZ before their first launch about dumping lithium batteries into the ocean. Something about rockets attract a lot of attention.
📍Long Beach Aeon R turbopump testing is happening now. Yup, you heard it right - we've got our test facilities up and running at our HQ, starting with the cryo test of an Aeon R turbopump. 👇
New skirt, who dis? Testing a new article configuration for Aeon R this week, complete with a 3D printed nozzle skirt. A successful operation with lots of good data to inform future tests.
@torybruno not a typical structural test problem. I suppose even LN2 won’t be cold enough to simulate LH2 temps. Hope the corrective actions are straight forward.
@torybruno Was it a workmanship/design related failure or a test/operational related failure (like someone forgot to open the vents when draining the tanks, etc)
