I am proud to announce that I have successfully completed the world’s first USA coast to coast fully autonomous drive!
I left the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles 2 days & 20 hours ago, and now have ended in Myrtle Beach, SC (2,732.4 miles)
This was accomplished with Tesla FSD V14.2 with absolutely 0 disengagements of any kind even for all parking including at Tesla Superchargers.
Anyone else have an opinion on the topic of FSD streaks? Positive or negative
I respectfully disagree with his take below but always love to hear from the other side
Ok Lane and I just got into a bit of an argument due to the FSD streak. As @ChuckCook noted a while back, these streaks reward dangerous behavior and this was a case in point. Details follow. @Tesla_AI you need to pay heed.
On our way back from summer meetup Michigan, our Cybertruck has driven very poorly on FSD: lane biasing to the left the entire trip and extremely slow to shift lanes to the right. I’ve documented this and will be sending a detailed report to the Tesla AI team. Still we’d made it to 570 miles on the way home. But in Nashville in heavier traffic the truck was taking an extremely long time to merge right and a truck honked at us. @lanielane81 yanked the wheel to force it over and that of course broke the streak. I said something like “noooo!” And it upset her that I was bummed about the whole thing.
All’s well and I apologized but the lesson for me is that this streak thing can lead to poor decisions on our parts.
I’d suggest rethinking this idea, and at the least allowing us to hide the streak number on the main screen. It’s stupid to encourage poor decisions when safety is on the line.
Pro Tip👇
I have free RAN charging on my R1T so always I'm optimizing for RAN-only routes on every road trip. To/from Michigan was all RAN.
By comparison, Rivian has a 10 minute grace period on RAN idle fees. After that it's usually $0.50/minute in fees. They do not account for RAN busy vs empty time like Tesla. Maybe this is something @WassymBensaid can assist with?
