This press statement comes from a place of ignorance of the issues facing Plateau State and the larger Middle Belt

1. It is not a clash, a clash is two communities fighting

What is happening here is basically militias invading indigenous lands and communities, displacing them and resettling their people in these areas

I cannot clash with you in your bedroom and it will be called a clash

2. Tagging it retaliatory attacks is also false.
Fulani militias have attacked over 70 ethnicities in the Middle Belt

How possible is it that all 70 groups attacked Fulani and the Fulani militias are simply retaliating

What is happening is criminality and crimes against humanity should not be sugarcoated under any other terms

3. What is happening is NOT a conflict BETWEEN communities
Those militias are not from those communities even as settlers. These are militias who have received foreign training and are unleashed

They come from OUTSIDE those communities to unleash mayhem in these places.

Sure the nomadic fulanis around these places aid these militias by showing them the indigenous communities lands etc, however they are accomplices.

It must be however noted that the main actors are not from those communities

4. There is also no issue of misunderstanding between different ethnic and religious groups

In the 2004, Plateau Peace Conference, the Hausa and Fulani settlers admitted they are settlers.

This is documented. The Justice Niki Tobi and Justice Ajibola commissions of inquiry also affirmed this same position

So there isn’t any disagreement to who is an indigene or who is a settler in Plateau State. So there are no ethnic disagreements about the different statuses that different groups hold in Plateau

Along religious lines, we have indigenous Muslims who are Pyem, Bogghom, Berom and they do not coordinate themselves into militia groups to attack other indigenous communities

Fulani militias however, using Islamic motivations (which they communicate to villages) invade these places slaughtering people, burning, looting these areas and trying to resettle their people on our lands

5. What everyone has to remember is that the Fulani have been having cattle all around Nigeria since the colonial era

Why did the case of Fulani militia killings however, begin in the 4th republic in 2001 even before the advent of Boko Haram, Ansaru, ISWAP etc with weapons proliferation after 1999 which I have shared below

Why did in so many communications, are JNI and the Sultan of Sokoto are being mentioned like in this communication

Are we civilians the ones to do investigations for security agencies?

Is this deliberately put out to distort facts?

We have known that these are deliberate acts to displace our people for quite a while now

Being law abiding in Nigeria has its cons because our people have made sure to not take the laws into their hands but it has yielded no fruit

We are left with no choice than to employ variants of survival tactics however unorthodox at this point

That is the only way we will survive in the next century
