👉 In “Hybrid Pooling with LLMs via Relevance Context Learning” (with @davidoterof), we turn examples into explicit, topic-aware relevance narratives, rethinking how LLMs judge relevance. #SIGIR2026
👉In “Learning Evidence of Depression Symptoms via Prompt Induction”, (with Eliseo Bao, @anxopvila and @davidoterof ) we teach LLMs to detect symptoms by turning examples into clear, reusable guidelines. #SIGIR2026
Happy to share that the @IRLab_UDC team will present the following works at #SIGIR2026 🎉 Great work by everyone involved, very proud of these contributions! Abstracts below👇
🥳 @itspalomap paper "Can LLMs Evaluate What They Cannot Annotate? Revisiting LLM Reliability in Hate Speech Detection" has been accepted at #LREC2026 w/ @davidoterof & @patrimrodilla See you in Palma 🇪🇸✈️

Happy to see this work with @davidoterof accepted at #ECIR2026. A deceptively simple yet effective idea: improve PRF through selective relevance feedback using small LLMs, denoising the feedback set without polluting or overcomplicating the underlying PRF model.
The Special Issue on LLMs as Evaluators in Springer Nature is now open for submissions. We welcome contributions on reliability and bias, human–LLM collaboration, efficiency, and applications across domains such as IR, NLP, healthcare, or social computing.

🧠💬 How does depression "talk" on social media?
@eliseobao’s work explores depression-related language on Reddit & Twitter using relevance-based models to better understand and detect mental health risks.

🎉 Very proud of @JorgeGabin_! Today, he successfully defended his PhD Thesis titled 'Improving the Search Experience on Complex Search Scenarios' 📚 Big thanks to @wangxieric, @patrimrodilla and @DavidELosada, for serving on the committee
Now at #CLEF2025@UNED! 🚀 @anxopvila is presenting this year’s @earlyrisk Lab overview. Join us at the #eRisk sessions today and tomorrow to discover the great work of our participating teams!
If you care about multiple comparisons in IR (you should!), you might want to check our work on this problem. Spoiler: Bonferroni is ok, but there are better alternatives. #SIGIR2025

There's an Italian who's sorely missing at #sigir2025. His name is Carlo Emilio Bonferroni. If he'd been here, 3 of 8 papers in a session I was at would not have been there. Please remember to correct for multiple hypothesis testing.
