It's a piece of history just a couple of inches wide, but the medal represents an act of bravery on the waters of Cayton Bay during World War One

Members of the Scarborough Sub Aqua Club 83 have taken images of the wreck of the minesweeper Orianda. I've added them to the story of the wreck and its rediscovery.
A second wreck has passed into the care of Scarborough Sub Aqua Club.
Here is the story of the Lady Ann, torpedoed off Scarborough during WW1. https://t.co/ox1YCA567F
The Scarborough Sub Aqua Club recently became legal owners of the wreck of the Orianda. She was lost in a dramatic explosion whilst sweeping mines off Cayton Bay in 1914.
To celebrate the club becoming custodians of the wreck, here is her story.

Dodging the bank holiday crowds by watching Scarborough v Folkton & Flixton.
Watching club cricket in a county ground is a bit odd at times, but I love it.
The last royal holidaymaker at Filey was Princess Katherine of Greece in 1936. Within a few years, Britain would be at war. Post-war Filey changed dramatically. The royals and the super-rich now favoured the Côte d'Azur and the Italian lakes.

Filey's Crescent is facing a crisis. North Yorkshire Council's tax on second homes has resulted in many properties being placed on the market. The redevelopment of the Hylands has stalled. Paintwork is peeling off the facade of Royal Crescent Court.

The blitz of Scarborough in March 1941 caused a tragic loss of life. 118 North Marine Road was destroyed in the raid.
Here is the story of that night and its aftermath—now updated following my day spent in Scarborough Cricket Club's archive.https://t.co/s7mCe4p9ub
Following a day rooting through the archive @ScarboroCricket, I've updated my piece on the club's war memorial.
In the minute books I found the discussions that led to the erection of the memorial at North Marine Road.

My office for the day. Scarborough Cricket Club’s archives. Researching the first Indian team to tour England in 1886; the discussions in 1919 of erecting a club war memorial; the bombing of the houses in 1941, the site of which today’s offices are sited.
To celebrate County Cricket Day, Yorkshire CCC are offering free entry to tomorrow's match between Yorkshire Women and Warwickshire at Scarborough.

The calm after a frenetic evening at Valley Parade.
A lively night on North Parade and very late one at a packed Platform Bar.
Quite a mix of late night drinkers, City fans, two Dutch Bantams and a sole smug Bolton fan.
The Wold Newton Triangle Britain’s most haunted and mysterious landscape — werewolves, ghosts, UFOs, standing stones and a vanished lake.
