Interesting issue with CloudFlare this morning. https://t.co/I9Z9L3kZEe is showing a revoked certificate for some people but not others. Confirmed via SSL Labs. It looks like CF is serving the correct cert to some people but not others.

Looks like Entrust has now revoked the certificate that they re-issued for the domain on Nov 11th. I'm wondering if Rapala did that as a troubleshooting measure due to the CF certificate provisioning issue.

Does FireFox show a cert error for you guys?

@HDCautism @othersteve If that's the case, then poor Rapala has been experiencing a difficult to diagnose transient issue for 5 days that CF is responsible for which would have had both a sales and reputation impact.

@HDCautism @othersteve As in, on Nov 11th, they uploaded the reissued cert and that it's taken this long for CF to propagate that reissued cert to all edge servers. I can't immediately think of a more likely scenario unless revoked certs don't immediately land on Entrust's CRL (which would be odd).

@HDCautism @othersteve I mean, I guess it's possible that they didn't upload the re-issued certificate immediately on Nov 11th, however if they did that then the entire site would have a revoked cert for several days and that's worse. The most likely scenario is that this has been broken for days.

@HDCautism @othersteve Since the issue can only be replicated in certain geographical areas and because Chrome wasn't picking it up, it would be easy to not be fully aware of the problem for several days. The only reason I picked it up is because one of my client's antivirus (ESET) blocked the website

@HDCautism @othersteve Sure, that makes sense. What's odd is that it didn't propagate to all CF edge servers in a timely manner. Also interesting is that the updated certificate was issued several days ago, so it's possible this issue has been around for more than a few hours.

@othersteve @HDCautism I'm not saying, "Don't use a CDN like CloudFlare", rather I think it's important to weigh the risk/benefits model of using a CDN rather than just assume that the only downside of using a big name CDN is associated with the corresponding price tag involved in doing so.

@othersteve @HDCautism As IT, I think it's easy to look to a company like CloudFlare and trust that issues are few and far between... however, in the last year we've now seen 3 major issues from CF resulting in daytime downtime. I haven't had that much primetime downtime on any single server hosts.

@othersteve @HDCautism It also shows one of the many reasons why it might be better to not use a CDN such as CloudFlare from a cost management perspective. You give up a lot of control of your website to the CDN. If the CDN has issues, you can't just go fix them. Rapala lost business and reputation.
